Excellent, Andre! Thanks for this clear demonstration.
What is the support that you’re using for your iPad (and router) that’s attached to the rear of your mixer?

Hi. Were you able to try this? Any luck? You might also consider making a couple of cables or barrel connectors with the ground pin lifted (unwired). Another handy thing for your toolkit is the Switchcraft IL-19; it’s a cure-all for lots of problems.

Soren, then you would have the option to not change anything on your computer! That’s great! But you DO understand that others might like the option to convert the entries in a discussion into their local Time Zone, so as to make it easier to follow the discussion. As https://community.allen-heath.com/members/mfk0815/ said, a great many forums allow this as part of how the forum is programmed. It’s not unusual and it certainly shouldn’t be difficult.

I’m guessing that the forum’s “clock” is set to UTC. If your PC is also set to UTC, then you wouldn’t gain or be harmed by other people having the option to read the posts with the timestamp adjusted to their own Time Zone. No confusion for you, and less confusion for others. Is there a problem with that concept?

My PC must be smarter than yours. It doesn’t get confused on other forums where, as part of your profile, you can set your local Time Zone.

In many (most?) situations, when an engineer wants to make a simultaneous multitrack recording off a live mix console, he or she will want not only post HA/pre-fade, but also pre-HPF, pre-EQ and pre-dynamics. So you’d commonly want to use all those things in a live mix but not record with those things in the signal path. Many systems give you the option of choosing your “pick point”. That’s what jb07 is asking about, which isn’t at all out of the ordinary.

Of course, I’m saying the obvious. Maybe I’m not understanding the question?

If you need this in a hurry, the easiest and quickest way to accomplish what you want would seem to be either an inline Switchcraft or similar XLR phase reversal adapter, or you could resolder one end of an XLR patch cable and make it yourself. Or am I not understanding the problem?

Does it need to be Dante-enabled?

    Hello Alexi,
I have a couple of questions about the switch you described in an earlier post, the Netgear GS305.
I, too, was looking at this switch for a simple Dante network with DT168, SQ-5, laptop, and maybe an external Dante-equipped recorder in the future. Not too much more than that. Well, maybe a 2nd DT168, but that’s quite a bit in the future.

The GS305 is an unmanaged switch, with EEE (energy efficiency) features, as you know.
Question: Audinate says they highly recommend that energy efficient features be turned off in switches. I have not been able to find out if this is possible with this model. Is it?
Question: I see no pic anywhere of the back of the unit. Does the switch have any way of locking or securing the power connector, so that it doesn’t accidentally get disconnected?

The GS305E is the managed model. Audinate does not recommend a managed switch for a basic network like mine. Are you happy with the unmanaged switch, and do you see any need for your network to need a managed switch? Can you please describe what’s on your Dante network?

    Thanks,
    Ira

There is no where in the manual writen dat the dt168 should have the same firmware as the desk.

Hi Richard, Thanks for your response here. You’re right that A&H don’t say specifically in the manual that all the devices must be running the same firmware version. But they do say this, in the Firmware Update Instructions: “For the correct operation of Dante expanders within an SQ system, including preamp control and use of multiple expanders, all devices in the system should be running the latest firmware.”

So if the instructions say to look on the DT168 product page’s Software Tab for the latest firmware, then there should BE a Software Tab on the DT168 page. And it should say what the latest firmware version is. And, if there’s an update, it should be found there. So it kind of leaves you hanging, not knowing if you have the latest firmware and not knowing where else to look. Perhaps A&H can remedy this?

I’ve been studying the Dante materials on the Audinate website, and I thought I’d learned that all devices on the LAN must be running the latest (or same??) version of the firmware, and I’ll get back to you if/when I find it.

    Cheers and Merry Christmas.

You can more or less do that by using an iPad and have the iPad set on the needed menu.

Ah, thank you for that reminder. Yes, that’s a very workable solution. Several weeks ago, KeithJ reminded me that data entry – labeling the inputs, e.g. – can be done quickly on an iPad as well. Another very helpful tip.
    Cheers.

I agree with Alessio and ioTon that having a Midas ProX pop-up-like window for the EQ parameters would be desirable. But whether you’re looking at a graphical representation of the EQ or the numerical values of the EQ, you’re still looking at a screen, so I’m not sure there’s an advantage of one over the other.

And MikeC – I agree that using a digital surface, in general, demands more attention to the console and results in less attention being paid to the performers. But I blame that more on those desks – like the Avids – that rely on the use of a trackball, which I hate, or a mouse which is only slightly better. I am liking the implementation of the UI on the SQ desk. I’m able to get in and out of a parameter adjustment and get back to listening, rather than paying attention to the desk itself. If anything, having the ability to have an external screen locked to a particular view – like a monitor mix or an FX – would allow me even more time to spend on paying attention to the performer and less on pushing buttons.
