One thing I’m curious about & can’t seem to confirm in the literature (maybe because it’s wishful thinking!) – will the Dante card carry standard network data (i.e. can the Ethernet cable carrying the Dante link also provide connectivity for Editor on that computer to the mixrack?)?

YES, that’s one of the things that are cool about it :-) Check out the Dante website:
“Dante runs on inexpensive off-the-shelf computer networking hardware, and does not require dedicated network infrastructure. Ethernet switches transmit Dante digital media streams alongside ordinary data traffic, so you can integrate professional media operations into properly designed pre-existing networks…”

Dante uses IP standards, not just the ethernet hardware protocol. If you’d like to know more about the architecture of data networks, check out https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OSI_model

Wouter I will no doubt be picking your brains again when my Dante card arrives ;)
So as I understand what you’re saying there is that I plug the output of my Dante card into the router that already is connected to the Mixrack Network port & my laptop that I use for Editor control and the Dante stream will come down the same network cable? It almost seems to good to be true…

    matches at Wembley Stadium.

“We are pleased to have Kieran help our European expansion“, adds
John McMahon, Audinate’s VP of Sales and Support. “Kieran brings a
wealth of day-to-day experience of deploying Dante systems for some of
the largest events and concert tours over the past few years”.

    Hi folks

We are now expecting to receive the Brooklyn modules (used in our Dante card) from Audinate in December. This is when we should receive the modules, so I would have thought it unlikely that any complete cards will ship in December.

    Cheers

And I was just told February :-(((((
With 15 shows in January where I considered using virtual soundcheck capability, that sucks…

    Hi All,

I’m looking to purchase a Dante card mainly for live recording but I’m interested in whether a setup like this would work:

Dante card in iDR mixrack -> laptop with virtual sound card software installed. The laptop would have another sound card installed with 8 analogue outputs and would be mounted in the amp rack with the 8 outputs connected to the amps.

So, the laptop becomes a recorder and also a distribution device to amps allowing just a CAT5 cable to connect from Mixrack to Amp rack.

Is this feasible or just a dream? I know Lab Gruppen support Dantebut can’t really justify purchasing new amps.

    Cheers,

    Gary.

    @joe90

If you have some software to send the input from one sound card to an output on another sound card, I think this could work. However I would check for latency problem within the laptop.

Furthermore, I don’t know if I would trust my laptop to be such a central part of a live show… loosing a recording is not nice at all, but loosing your amps during a live show… feel free to test this and let us know :-)

    Wouter,

I totally agree about relying on Mr Gates or Mr Jobs to keep your rig reliable and would need some serious testing and confidence before I implemented it into my rig!

Probably more reliable would be an iDR Out in your amp rack which gives 8 XLR outs but according to the A&H website you need a M-MMO card to link it to the iDR MixRack which obviously uses up your Port B slot which is a shame.

Maybe an iDR Out that works from Dante is needed. Probably wishful thinking! [:D]

    Cheers,

    Gary.
