Well it isn’t all powerful, but I also wouldn’t want so much loaded on it as to bog it down or make it sluggish which in my opinion would be worse. There are other options like Jump Desktop which let you do remote desktop into a PC using the editor if needed for other functions. There are downsides to that but it is fairly fast to switch between that and mixpad occasionally. I personally always use both laptop/editor and MixPad as I really have come to not trust the iPads wireless completely. Not as robust as my Lenova tablet which I usually have hard-wired to the rack anyway for redundancy.

Its what I like to do when I’m not gigging. Pushing the envelope with technology.

My real challenge will be getting a computer on my X8 to stream audio over a 3G wireless network using DANTE to a live concert below.

It has no practical application, but it has a geeky coolness to it that cannot be beaten.

How about adding flyovers with that audio (rotocraft would be nice there) of the crowd broadcast directly to the IMAG screens? Other than the liability that would be a crowd pleaser. Too bad Dante doesn’t do video. Or let the crowd (selected or drawing winners) dial up the plane and pick a song to stream from a playlist?

It’s almost unreal what you can do with networking, wireless etc. I’ve been looking at FPV and stumbled across a guy in New Zealand flying a big X8 wing doing telemetry with a phone and computer. Some really cool stuff. :)

Ahhh….this explains the Dante analog out post. [:D]. What do you think of their gear so far? I’ve thought about trying something from them for an access point(s).

Yep…I did everything Wed night. Worked through everything with some music running and even let it go all night mostly for reassurance that it was stable. Have a show on it tonight.

The meters stay up now except for a brief period when I open something major in the editor which I can expect. Noticed the improvement scrolling in Mixpad, subtle but good. Liked what I heard in the multi band comp though that’s entirely new to me. Wish the PFL buttons were lockable somehow but that’s minor. There’s still things I’d like to see in Editor being that and mixpad are all I use, but lots of nice things that they’ve done in this release and a lot of work I’m sure. Kudos!!!

I didn’t see that in the release notes.

Found it on the website…..firmware notes….

Multicast router capability no longer required: Wireless broadcast of iLive metering for MixPad and Editor no longer uses Multicast. This allows a greater choice of routers that should be able to work with iLive. The Multicast option on the iLive Surface has been removed.

    Also in the editor notes….

Metering no longer multicast – Due to the inability of many routers to handle multicast correctly’, the broadcasting of iLive metering over the network has been changed and the multicast option removed.

Noticed this but have no idea on price or quality.

@biggsounds the problem is that I need both my iLives at the sending location and the receiving location is a long way away. I effectively just want to use DANTE to export audio to another location over IP and have the sound come out of the laptop at the other end. I’m not worried about recording for this application.

I just need to convert a single DANTE channel to Analog in realtime at the other end of a length of ethernet. I’m also not worried about latency.

    Any ideas on this?
There must be a way to do it.

I believe so as you can feed two discreet iDR units such as the iDr-out or iDr D-out for 16 channels of analog or AES outputs.

I,ll probably wait till the apps up at Apple as well. Bucks has a post up about that for the modular owners, but it would apply to any of us that rely on an iPad and Tablet/laptop. I suppose you can roll back the firmware if something happens to the app but I’d rather not have to do that. I need to back up the app in iTunes as well. I’m still learning the apple way, and even more so now that our church has put two Macs in the booth at church for display and video. [:0]. So, who’s going to win the coveted title of spotting the download first? [:D]

I’ve connected the keyboard and mouse and the pointer keeps snapping back to the bottom left of the screen.

I called American Music & Sound, they got me to reset the console etc with the dip switches, but nothing worked. They then said that maybe the screen is being pressed at the left bottom in some way and that they can’t do anything else (no I’m not complaining, they were good!)

I removed the back and lightly slackened the screws that holds the screen but still nothing [:(]

I’m bummed because this is my third large console from A&H and I bought this because the VCAs on my ML4000 started giving problems……..(my GL3300 also had to have the faders replaced)

I don’t mistreat my equipment, all are covered and in proper cases etc.

No I can’t cross-rent because there aren’t any other iLives around and the cost would be preventative to rent otherwise……….

I’m bummed because I’ve been gearing up to buy a Dante card and a GLD……………now I’m not so sure [:(]

Can anyone out there help please????

    PLEASE!!!!?!?!?!?!?!??

btw I’m currently in Trinidad, West Indies

Here’s a copy of a post that could possibly be of help to you. A&H support could help you with this. NOTE: SBC is the touchscreen computer.

    Good point Rexeltw.

Yes you can run the recover SBC software on an external laptop in the event you do have an SBC failure.

This is included in the firmware package when you download it from the website. you will need to configure a PC laptop to be on a campatible and unique IP address. Run the DL5000SystemManager.exe and then when the connecion failed screen appears point the recovery SBC software at your surface and mixrack.

Note: this is recovery software only and not recommended to run along side the SBC in normal operation. Please use editor software for that purpose.

    Regards
    Sam A&H

No problems here as well. Not in the same rack but sitting under or on top of the mixrack. Considering UPS products are used and built for computers for the most part, they should fit the purpose well. Of course you still get what you pay for just like anything.

I can’t speak for a surface but with the editor there are 8 options in the signal chain and follow fader and follow mute buttons so I think you can get what you want. In editor the super strip has a direct out rotary control above the fader so I’m assuming a surface has some way of setting direct out level.

Gotcha, mixed up my PL’s. I’m interested to see how the tap tempo works on the iPad when ver 1.9 comes out.

Hi, Scott — it was a PL-8 with a custom footswitch, for doing tap tempo and FX return mutes while running sound from stage.

Of late I’ve been providing services to a buddy’s band, in which I run sound from a traditional FOH position. In that situation it would be great to have a fader to ride delay returns, a button for tap tempo, etc.
