I have to agree with Bigbean on the usefulness of a functional offline editor. I could use the precious extra minutes pre show to deal with the attitudes of the lead singers and noodling guitar players to get my chi right vs hunched over the desk tapping on the little touch screen. Not a deal breaker by any means, but could be handy to pre edit shows for National acts prior to arrival at the venue where I do everything myself and time is never friendly.

PS – had another system crash last night post show. We’re on our second GLD after problems with the first. :(

I too have experienced several crashes of our GLD. The original issue was deemed a hardware defect and the desk was replaced a few weeks ago. Now, the new desk has crashed on me. First it kinda lurched then just stopped everything on the surface for a few minutes then resumed on it’s own. The second was mid second set and it never recovered, however the mix was decent at that point and I let it fly until the end of the show as opposed to stopping between songs to reboot. I like the desk, but the reliability issue is becoming fairly serious. Am hoping for another firmware update to deal with these problems soon. Making my company look more closely at the Midas Pro2 regardless of additional expense.

I fully agree. After pinning out a 24+ input stage the last thing I want to do, or even have the time for, is shuffle through a bunch of channels in the custom 2 setup on the iPad.

Would be awesome to have the iPad mimic the channel strip assignments right from the get go.

The app is pretty sweet overall and hopefully some modifications are forthcoming in the next update. Specifically the tap delay in my opinion. Dashing back to the desk through a thick crowd to reset the delay is just ridiculous.

Still happy with the overall GLD and app combo vs other brands of desks I mix on.

While very colorful and pretty, there are some things I hope get some attention in the first update.

    Wish list:

    Access to library files

Access to tap delay and FX racks from the iPad

Having the Inputs on the iPad reflect the control surface setup, not simply 1-48

Metering, RTA or custom would be awesome, too.

Overall a solid App and much better than nothing. Perhaps some of these changes are coming in the first update? I would give up the flashy colors for a more responsive interface that doesn’t hog the battery of my iPad as much, too. The Library/Scene access would have been great yesterday as I mixed 7 different bands back to back to, well, you know…

Anyone else have some experience to share yet?

The router just needs to be set up with DHCP and will distribute range of addresses, you chose the range when you setup the router configuration. If your iPad can see the router when you go to Settings>WiFi just select it from the list, entering a password if necessary (I would recommend doing so to prevent some bozo getting onto your network and molesting your GLD settings). The GLD is already configured to pull an IP address after you enable the feature using the button (restart required, FYI). Upon restart is should pull an address from your router. Launch the GLD Remote app and have fun. Did a full show today and really enjoyed using the app. I have a few things to learn with it, but seems very stable and feature rich.

I think the idea is that someone could be on the console and someone else mixing on the ipad, or if you have a band member mixing their own mix, it will not change the view of FOH.

Ah, that makes sense. Is there someplace I can find a complete reference guide to the features and controls of the app? Thanks for the info. Am headed to the venue for another show and will give it a full workout today. Cheers.

Ok, got the app and did a bit of fooling around after the gig tonight. Seems to work fairly well, but am having trouble getting the select function to work correctly. For example, I will select AUX 1, the select button indicates it has been selected on the iPad, but the desk does not reflect this and I can’t actually mix the aux send as I would expect. In general mix mode the faders do respond to the iPad control, but not in the deeper functions of the mixer, ie; aux, fx etc. anyone else tried it yet? I am mixing again tomorrow from 2-5pm PST (California) and will give it another try during the show. Am happy to have the app, but really want to EQ, mix and set monitor levels from the stage vs in the hobbit hole the FOH mix position is located in. Hoping for the best.

Get in line, bro. We’re all waiting for that mid Summer (2012) elease forth coming by the end of Feb 2013. Nothing like standing next to an artist onstage with my iPad and setting up a monitor mix to really make me satisfied it actually sounds like it is supposed to. Then again, that is while mixing on a Presonus. Hope to duplicate that with the GLD soon!

As far as the 14 character scene name issue blamed for the crashes, I’m rather skeptical as I hadn’t either saved or named anything at that point. I had loaded some library files into the inputs for ch 1-7 on the drum kit when it occurred. I did notice the desk wasn’t able to read my USB stick in the upper port and the lower one worked, but after some time had past and I went to the library for a different file to use, on an input I wanted to modify, it couldn’t find the USB stick at all until I removed and replaced it. Not sure how a scene name could relate to the issue. Have been told that the desk needs to be replaced due to hardware issues. Bummer is I have a show scheduled withJeff Keith from Tesla on Thursday. Hope I don’t experience a recurrence mid show. Then I look like a tool behind the console, which totally sucks. I don’t want to be that guy really.

I have just experienced the same thing last night. Have over 40 successful events to date until during setup last evening the desk froze and screen gives I/O error messages for awhile before blacking out entirely. Hard power reset and reboot brought it back to life, but made for an uncomfortable show due to concerns of repeat lockups mid performance. I noticed that the upper USB port wouldn’t read my thumb drive yet the lower port did. Was loading some library files from the drive to individual inputs at the time of crash. Reading all these reports makes me think there is a problem with the new firmware update and its I/O interface with the USB. Perhaps something more sinister? A virus from a competitor? No, but seriously, besides that issue last night the desk has functioned flawlessly. Any clues for a fix or work around to avoid potential disruption of an entire live show? And, since I am venting a bit, where the heck is the iPad app? Dammit… See pic for screen shot of error logs.

Ps – ok, just tried to upload a screen shot and get this HTML response, 500 – Internal server error.
