    Finally got it fixed.

It was Audinate’s own inability to see its own chip set that was the issue. With Allen & Heath’s help I had to force-download an intermediate version of software then let Audinate Software Updater take it automatically to the final version as it was supposed to. I do still have a problem where my MacBook Pro’s name is not recognized consistently. The name of my laptop intermittently comes up correct (Johns MacBook) or incorrect (New-host). Either way it does pass audio bidirectionally but the instability of the laptop name concerns me.

One note about Audinate’s poor service. They are quick to tell me to contact Allen Heath even though it was entirely their issue. Without even hearing my symptoms or attempting a repair I was told “call Allen & Heath”. Problem was Audinate’s client software and their Brooklyn chipset. It was Allen & Heath who ultimately helped me. A&H had the right to say “call Audinate”. But the service person at A&H stuck with me and solved my issue.

I would like to recommend A&H make it easier to find the correct software on their site. Make it easily searchable please.

    A&H Yeah!
    Audinate booo….

I have also tried a third computer. Windows 7 on a desktop. Still no joy.

People around here are resourceful and may have different ways to accomplish mixing. If you can give an example of how (and why) you need so many gangs it would assist others to visualize what you are doing.

That would be a big step in the direction of helping you.

    Careful there Nettings.

When I started noting things that were on my 01v at 1/4 the cost and was thinking they should be available at this price level I got blasted by the people who under all circumstances will defend their purchase of the GLD as if these features are not required by any competent operator.

I too do plays as well as live sound. Scene fade as well as individual channel fades per scene make one’s life easy. I would like to see side chain limiting too.

Another thing I do but on the script is, I put the scene names on those small 1/2 by 2 inch colored post-it notes. That way changing timing is a snap. I just move them up or down the page during rehearsals. Later, when there are no more additions/deletions I remove the post -its and write directly on the page as they can get lost.

    PDHERRING,

Lately I have been naming my cues by the page number and what cue it is on the page. Act 1, scene 2, page 3, cue three would be 1-02-03-3. You can omit the act numbers if you use the major scene number jumps like this:

First act gets scene memories 4 thru 199. Second act gets memories 204 thru 399. Leave a few (5) unused memories between scenes. When you recall-next it will skip empty scenes. That way if the director changes a scenes you won’t have to ripple the cue numbers through the whole act, just the scene.

I would love to hear how others who use he GLD80 for plays name their scenes and still leave flexibility for changes during rehearsals.

Cue list editor? Tell me more please. Is it an A&H product? Which software does it come with.

    Thank you,

I would use this feature to “dim” effects while the vocal is prominent and raise the effects level after they have stopped singing. Sort of a way to ride the reverb tail automatically. Or have the vocal reverb tail diminished while a guitar was playing to clean up the mix a bit. When guitar stops the vocals will get wetter.

How about a kick drum modulating the guitars in a mix?

    Yum.

Personally, I own a GLD80 system that is decently pimped out minus IEM mixers. I have only two Aviom mixers now.

I advise for a smallish church with two sites. They are going IEMs. I would need five each for a total of 10 units. Comparing web prices between the ME1 and the P16M is $6500 vs $2500, a $4k difference. I am aware the capabilities and differences so those do not need reinforcing here. What our church needs for IEMs are about 10 to 12 channels. Also I would live with the incompatibility of AES50 and the A&H protocol for the price difference.

A&H have set a precedence for offering a down market digital mixer with their QU16 compared to their GLD and I-live offerings. It seems to follow on that a compatible down market IEM would bolster sales of their QU16 mixer. That $4000 difference will more than buy me a whole mixer of whatever brand I choose. I am sure the other company put in allot of software engineering too but the mixers are presented at an attractive price point. Especially if you need to buy into their whole ecosystem. I am sure the less expensive IEM mixers are selling by the container load. What is unattractive about that?

The price drop of the GLD was a reaction to something and I assume it is the competition from that entry level board offered by the competition. I was just thinking/hoping that A&H might offer a low line IEM mixer to augment their QU mixer.

I do enjoy my GLD80 system. Thank you for a great product.

Bob, It is safe to assume we use our mixers for quite different purposes. Mine is closer to hobby use but it does become part of a large wireless microphone system for plays that makes decent coin on occasion. It sounds like you use yours to help support yourself. I’m a bit jealous…

I know the channel count is different but the mixer companies that begin with B and Y each have built in solutions. The Qu can do 18 ch recording with only a little outboard memory.

That Dante card was darned expensive.

    BobWitte,

In my GLD80 I have a Dante card and use it to talk to my MacBook Pro. That being said, my opinion above still stands. Look at how inexpensively A&H as well as others implement multi-channel recording.

Further, I just do not understand introducing ICE, a recorder with analog ins and outs. I am sure sharper minds than mine prevail at A&H but whatsupwitdat?

The lowly Yammahamma 01V has this feature. I used it often too. I miss it. I use a lot of scenes.

I agree that the Dante card is unreasonably expensive. If A&H were to adapt the ME-1 monitor circuitry into their recorder and sell it at a reasonable price that would be the bees knees (LOL).

But I see a fly in the ointment here. The monitor return is on stage and the recorder/player would be best situated at the console.

I know this is a bit snarky but, if there was another way to view all the scene data this would be easy to troubleshoot. But who uses scenes anyway? :)

This nudge was just too easy, sorry.
