You could also use the Mixpad app to control the mixer – zero noise, and portable. Just takes an iPad (get a bigger unit), a router, and the software. The faders still move, but if you select a layer that you aren’t using, no noise.
Well Callum, aside from moving the mixer outside the sanctuary, you have a couple of options. You can use mutes (no physical noise) if you are just turning mics on a different layer on/off. If you are needing to control the channels (maybe groups, such as drums) on a 2nd layer, you can create DCA groups (or regular sub-groups) and assign those into a single layer so you won’t need to switch layers. It all depends on the reason you are switching layers which solution would best work for you.
Thanks for your reply Keith – I now understand what I’m looking at. I interpreted the Ip1 as the source, not the input channel, so now it makes sense. Also looking at the Socket Preamp settings visibility makes sense, and now I can move forward with confidence. I would like to see (maybe as a future product update?) in the top right of the channel label something like L1 (local) or U1 (USB) or some other designator to reflect the actual patched source. Just my .02 cents. Thanks again.
For example, if you change the i/o routing in Mixpad to USB input, the Channel Strip still reflects the Local Input. If you load the file into the mixer, the routing is correct. See attached images for details.
