As title, I’m really curious about when to use Softkey function about Fader Start? Or Fader On-Off ?
I read the reference guide, it said:
• Fader On-Off –Illuminates a SoftKey while the selected channel fader is above -inf
• Fader Start – Momentarily illuminates a SoftKey when the selected channel fader moves above -infI have tried these function, but I just don’t get it.
Fader On-Off function is that I put fader above -inf and the certain softkey would light up. But why or when would I need this indicator light?
If the softkey light up, maybe I’ve already heard the sound come out from my speaker. And Fader Start function is that I put fader above -inf the certain softkey would light up moment, a very Short Flashing.
If I focus on show, I can hardly observed it.
When to use this function? Thanks to yours patient to read here.

so maybe it is prepared to control external equipment with MIDI and the lights of the softkeys are only for visual feedback2021/01/17 at 5:41 pm #98176BrianParticipantA agree that these options seem pretty useless. Of course A&H had to make the softkey buttons do SOMETHING, so this is what they came up with. They skipped all of the things that make sense (like loading a particular scene via a softbutton) and instead gave us Fader On/Off and Fader Start. Thanks A&H!

would be nice to hear from AH how they made that decision when they planned the system originally.
I would hope that fixing that would as simple as a firmware update so the soft buttons are more useful to you
but maybe they baked it into the hardware somehow so they cant fix it.2021/01/18 at 3:12 am #98179JunParticipantThank you guys.
Actually, I really love A&H console.
But these functions make me confused.2021/03/10 at 4:46 pm #99718DuesenbertParticipantBrian, you can definitely use a softkey to recall a specific scene. I have some set up and use them all the time. When you’re assigning a softkey, select Scene Controls, select Specific Scene Recall, then just choose which scene you’d like to recall.
But to the OP’s point, the potential uses for Fader Start and Fader On/Off elude me.

On the Avantis? I know you can do this on a Dlive, but I am 95% sure you cannot do this on the Avantis yet. But I am not in front of the console to verify this. I believe you can only choose “Next, Previous, Load, Save” etc with softkeys on the Avantis. Hopefully this will change with Firmware 1.1, but honestly we will just have to wait and see.

Typical use is an ‘on air’ light for fader on-off, signalling the mics are open in the studio. Fader start can be used to start playback of external players, e.g. you push up the ‘CD’ fader and a pulse is sent to the player GPI.
Since most functions are common across GPIO and SoftKeys, these two were left in the SoftKey options, but I agree there is little use for them.As for recalling a specific Scene on Avantis, yes that is coming in V1.1, together with other SoftKey functions.
