Hi, sorry for pestering y’all with a bunch of questions; I’m really just getting into using my CQ the way in the best way I can. THanks for indulging me.

The manual seems to imply that one can’t use both the ethernet port and the wifi router at the same time, is this correct?

Ideally, I would like to use both – if the wifi router can act as a general router and I can connect to a small wired network concurrently, I could conceivably use the built in router to connect my iPad and control both the CQ mixer functions via the CQ app, as well my lighting fixtures through a separate app, all on the same wifi network, and not need a separate router.

If this isn’t possible, is it planned for a future firmware update?

    Thanks!

The manual is correct. Do you have a spare router port on your current router? If so, you can achieve your goal.

If you do have to end up purchasing something, I would HIGHLY recommend one of the travel router options from GL-iNet like the “Opal”. These are inexpensive routers with a fairly unique ability – they can connect to a wireless (or wired) network and broadcast your own private wifi network at the same time. This makes it very easy to connect to an existing WiFi network for internet access, while still creating your own private/protected WiFi network for audio. It’s also very easy to tether the device to a cell phone, mobile hotspot, etc if needed.

I don’t think you need anything more than a router. What is really important is the amount of traffic that the apps you use require, and in the case you mention it is not much. In fact, it may even be better if there aren’t too many different Wi-Fi signals saturating existing channels. Simply what I would recommend so that there is no interference between the lights and the mixer, is that you use 2.4 Gh Wi-Fi for the lights, and 5 Gh Wi-Fi for the mixer (this way you will not have problems using its internal Bluetooth either). Any decent router that uses both Wi-Fi bands will work for this.

Thanks, guys. I was just thinking of an easy way to minimize the stuff I need to bring to gigs, lol.

But, since it sounds like I’ll need a router regardless, I’m looking at a couple of rack-mounted options just for convenience’s sake. Cool little feature on the Opal, though!

Yeah, most “all in one” routers can act broadcast their own wireless network or tether to an existing WiFi network, but not both at the same time. This is what really puts the GL-iNet devices in a class by themselves. Add to that the simplicity of connecting other internet sources via ethernet, USB, etc and it really is a unique device that makes creating a private network for your (audio) needs while still connecting to an outside network for internet access really easy to accomplish.

The rack mount WIFI routers look like a good solution but WIFI coverage works best when
the router/access point is up higher to get as near line of sight to the connecting device as possible, mounted in a rack could limit that.
