Spotify, YouTube, etc play back sped up when connected to xone:96

hi, asked everyone with a xone:96 but nobody seems to have encountered this issue:

fairly often, when my Xone:96 is connected to my MacBook it will play back all online music at about +15 bpm pitched up. Any YouTube video, Spotify, SoundCloud track, — you name it — will be played back at much higher tempo. what is going on? this does not affect iTunes playback or Ableton, etc., only music that is being streamed online by any internet browser.

Could it be a sample rate mismatch?
