I did first recording (multitrack – to sd card) with CQ20b on Friday.

I was a little bit worried to not to distord recorded wav-files.

Tried to check info from user manual, but failed to find any.

Just to be on safe side, I kept levels below 0dB. This meant that some close mics had to be adjusted to have Gain setting as low as something like 1 or 2.

Recorded wav files ended up being very quiet, so I had to boost them something like 20dB in DAW.

I suppose I should aim for something else than just “under 0dB”? In gain page, there is PK mark nearby level meter. It does not say any specific number, but I believe it is between +12 and +16dB. Is that actually maximum level for SD card recording?

I used the gain assistant for instruments and in addition set auto-gain for vox mics and that was a good thing – people get more exuberant when performing versus a sound check. 🙂 But those two features made setting gain a breeze.
