The Neve 5045 Primary Source Enhancer is undoubtedly the most popular plugin that Yamaha has released for the QL series in years. I’ve worked corporate events nonstop for eight years now and have yet to meet an A1 that doesn’t insert them almost immediately on their lav, lectern, and/or table mics. Its ability to reduce background noise and increase GBF with little more than the default settings almost makes it a crime to not, at the very least, insert them across subgroups. I recently just purchased an SQ5 for small events, as well as an SQ7 for larger events. I absolutely love the 96K upgrade and the obvious clarity & definition over my previous X/M32 consoles, and even over various client provided consoles like the QL and CL series. However, when I use my SQ series, what I miss most is the 5045. That said, I’m not sure how long it takes, or how much it costs to develop a suitable version of the 5045, but I for one would be more than willing to donate substantially towards its development.

It must do something pretty special for that. Do you think a multi-band expander would come close in terms of what it achieves? As far as I know there’s no expander (as distinct from gate) available for the SQ, plug-in or built-in. Good call for an SQ enhancement though!

2024/10/19 at 6:02 pm #126638HughParticipantIf possible , lets cut to the chase; A&H, like most all of their competitors, reserves the best ancillary embelishments for their Flag Ship top of the line models: D-Live & to a lesser degree Avantis. Digital desk processing has two independent parameters: Width, that determines the input/output capicity, and Speed that accomodates CPU hungry plug-ins that are prone to latency with slower chips or sample rate missmatches. Given the 24/96K XCIV core driven FPGA processing that is a standard feature in current A&H offerings from the entry level CQ up thru SQ, Avantis and D-Live there is a natural assumption of a high degree of compatibality with Plug-ins that operate @ 96K: but only if the Processer speed will accommodate them. The CQ’s processing width limits inputs to a max of 20 ins & 8 outs with out any provision for external stage box I/Os. The SQ’s I/O limitation is 48 even with external stage boxes. the Avantis offers up to 64 I/Os while D-Live goes well above 100. The processing I/O limitations of the respective width differences has absolutely nothing to do with the processing Speed of any of the different desks. The difference in manfuctoring expense between the fastest vs the slowest processing chip is not a significant number: it is absolutely a business model mgt decision to reserve the fastest & best speed for the top of the line large format consoles. IMO this is an antiquated “Profit Center” separation business model that does not comprehend their widely different customer Needs, Wants or Ability to Pay for top of the line embillishments regardles of their respective maxed out channel count. The fact of the matter is for every 64 or 100 input, large format console that is sold, there are dozens if not hundreds of 24 to 48 channel desks put in use every day. IMO missing an oportunity to make available highly profitable ancilary software to the small format market is a stupid business decision.

It doesn’t help anybody to read your thoughts far away from reality.
You write a statement that says exactly nothing about the topic, again and again.2024/10/20 at 11:53 am #126657HughParticipantClearly there are reality problems present within StephenR’s complaint pursuant to my post that is critical of A&H management decisions to limit advanced processing that is apparently reserved for the big format Flag ship line of the brand. This is the primary road block at the core of JohnH’s initial post and AndreS’s post: whether StephanR likes it or not!
