If Avantis gets a new fx FPGA upgrade card
I’d really love to see lots dyn8 from 16 to 242024/10/18 at 10:16 am #126615SonoveroParticipantI think it will be different. The Avantis definitely has four powerful FPGA chips with AMR processing units built into the standard Rack FX card. These chips were not available at the time of D-Live development. The additional free mini DSP slot is probably only intended as an update option for the distant future and will not be necessary for the Ultra Rack FX plugins. I suspect that there will be a firmware option to unlock it for money. The number of FX slots does not necessarily have to increase either, although I think that the performance is more than sufficient to increase the slots to sixteen.

I don’t think I could justify the same money the dLive upgrade costs, for our AVantis.2024/10/21 at 8:57 am #126674SonoveroParticipantIt is difficult to predict how A+H will position itself in this matter. The existing 16 FX slots were supplemented by 8 additional slots on the D-Live. So you have 24 FX slots, but you can only load the new plugins onto the 8 additional FX slots. The Avantis apparently already has the corresponding hardware. Would it be technically possible to use the new plugins on all existing FX slots? The number of chips installed even suggests that 16 slots would be possible. Perhaps the upgrade will free up two additional slots. Then you would have 16 FX slots that can be equipped with the new or the old plugins. That would be great. However, it would be a certain advantage over the D-Live and I am not sure whether A+H would allow that. Although it would be a real shame if A+H restricted us unnecessarily in this matter. I am pretty sure that the new plugins will come for the Avantis. The new FPGA+AMR chips are already installed in the CQ series and the consoles already have effects based on the new algorithms. Of course they are somewhat limited but they are based on the new algorithms. It remains to be seen which path A+H decides to take. However, I would find it extremely unfortunate if the number of FX slots on which the new algorithms are released is less than eight. Then they can hardly be used satisfactorily.
Some of it is just speculation. But I am pretty sure about the hardware. Because I am a technician and I checked directly on my console which chips are installed. I couldn’t see the chips on the new Ultra FX card but based on the cooler size and the associated cooling performance you can easily draw conclusions about what kind of chips are behind it.
The price will not be measured by the effort required to achieve a result, but by what the result looks like. So I think it will cost us a lot. But we have a great tool that no other manufacturer offers. And if it really works as well as advertised, I am also advised to pay a reasonable price for it.
