Wondering if it’s reasonable to expect that 1.9 will also bring compatibility with OS Mountain Lion?

I sent a support ticket to ask about Mountain Lion support, they confirmed that it would be supported in 1.9

So for those who have upgraded do I need to do any backing up of shows/scenes etc or will they just remain available for loading following upgrade to 1.9 Firmware and 1.9 Editor. If it all goes wrong can I go back to my 1.8 firmware/editor in the event of problems?

Sorry to ask such a basic question but this is the first time I’ve had to apply upgrades.
