You need an expansion card of some sort, like a Dante or Waves card. There is no USB multi track option auto Avantis or dLive.

I would think that if the SQ has enough I/O for you then you can use it. I don’t believe that the Avantis has any surround specific functionality like dLive does. That being said, the Avantis does have directly addressable matrixes, meaning you can send channels to a matrix rather than having to send to a mix bus first.

Regardless, I wouldn’t be afraid of learning the Avantis. Most of what you know about the SQ will apply to the Avantis as well. I have both and find moving between relatively seamless, though I have been in the A&H ecosystem since the iLive days, so it’s kinda second nature to me at this point. With respect to SQ to Avantis, it’s just more of everything (2 inserts vs 1 per channel, more mix busses, etc). The biggest change will be moving from the dedicated mix select buttons on the right of the SQ to the mix button on the Avantis (and dLive). Depending on how you lay out your layers it could require switching before selecting your mix bus. Not a big deal, but one thing to remember.

I don’t have my Avantis in front of me, but it should just be a matter of using the tie-lines to send the Dante in to the GigaAce out. I do something similar with my SQ5 and Avantis. I use the USB input on the SQ for VSC and then tie-line it to the Slink out which is connected to my Avantis.

I assume the same would work. In the routing section of the Avantis, go to Tie Lines and assign Dante in to GigaAce (or Slink) out, then have your other Avantis pick up the ins from the Slink or GigaAce port and route those to your channels.

You are correct. There is no dedicated monitor mix app for phones (Android or iOS). However, you do at least two options, depending on what you want:

    • Create a custom layout in CustomControl. Once you’ve done that can have your users connect via the iOS or Android application. I’ve done this and it’s worked well. It did take some time to complete, but the band loved it.
    • Mixing Station now supports the Avantis mixer, so that’s an option with a cost

It would be nice to have a dedicated IEM/monitor app, but none of the other pro-level mixers (dLive or iLive) had them. And, if I remember correctly, other manufacturers like DiGiCo don’t have them either. I kinda get the idea that when you’re at the Avantis/dLive and higher level, there’s an assumption of a monitor engineer/monitor board present.

(whoops … didn’t realize I had already replied to this topic before @mods can remove this if desired.)

I’ll add my “me too” to this thread. An add-on card is fine to ad UB-MADI like, or if desired, they could swing a bit higher and go with Thunderbolt/USB3 to get the full 64@24/96. I do expect this to be a lower priority item, but it could be useful in some situations.

I can confirm that I saw the same issue on mine. V1.11 as well. In fact, if I remember correctly I could replicate the behavior not only with the touchscreen but with Avantis Director connected to the board as well. I’ve not seen the issue since that one time.

I want to indirectly third this but add that I do realize that basically no pro-level console (Avantis and above, DiGiCo or Yamaha QL/CL and above) offers native USB. I do like that DiGiCo at least offers a UB-MADI card for the S21/S31 and think that something similar might be useful here. Of course in most scenarios it’ll be Dante or Waves SoundGrid, but at least having the option for a 48 channel UB-MADI (or equivalent card using the SQ USB processing) can be useful in situations where a user might not want to set up a full network to support Dante/WSG.
