    Hi Dianne

Is this the same case that you bought for your Qu24?

    https://www.videoguys.com.au/Shop/p/24857/gator-g-mix-20×25-mixer-case-with-wheels–20-x-25-gcp-mix20x25.html?gclid=CNPCp6rfjMgCFVUsvQodUtkLJQ

I am in desperate need of a portable case for my unit. I paid for a case when I bought the unit but the damn thing is a rugged road case which weighs 18kg so I can’t carry it.
The lightweight (under 9kg) case in the link, if it is the same as yours and holds the Qu24 easily, would be ideal!

    Thanks for any help

Just throwing my experience into the mix:

NOT COMPATIBLE: Western Digital My Book Studio 500 GB USB 2.0 / FireWire400/800 / eSATA Desktop External Hard Drive

Pity, as I have two of them.
Formatted the HD to FAT first using Disk Utility in Mac OSX 10.6.x (snow leopard)
When plugging into the Qu24 the light flashes quickly as if trying to read the HD but never connects.

Also have a 32GB (USB3) USB stick that formatted OK and was able to use as multitrack device but it lost so many bits of data that the playback was unuseable (luckily I was only recording ‘one two one two’ into each of the 18 input channels to test the device)

Am I correct in the understanding that most of the USB drives that are supported as multitrack devices are NOT self-powered?
I thought I read somewhere on the site that self-powered HDs were required. But all the latest ones listed are USB-powered.

for example: WD My Passport 500GB USB3.0

I can find in local outlets
WD 500GB My Passport for Mac Portable Hard Drive
    or
WD My Passport Ultra 500GB Portable Hard Drive

Are these the same as the compatible model listed on the website?
I don’t want to waste $ I don’t have buying HDs I’ll never be able to use.

    Thanks for any help!

LOL. There is another higher pitched alarm that goes off when something in the kitchen beeps. That took a while to get used to 🙂
Yes, the feedback frequency coming from the PA was the same frequency. The house engineer noticed it first a week or so before I stepped in and when it happened during my shift he told me it has been happening on and off for a little while.
Can’t say that I noticed it last night though.
Whether it has been corrected by a firmware update or something else is yet to be seen.

But thought I’d put in my 0.02c to the discussion in case there is something that needs to be investigated.

    Hi there.

On the QU24 up at a local venue there has been a smiliar problem where something sounds like it is starting to feed back – the frequency rings out for about 3 or 4 seconds (enough to make us go WTF!?) then shuts itself off.

The house engineer has been trying to isolate why this has been happening but hasn’t been able to find any combination of events that cause this.
It is just happening randomly, even when running low level acoustic gigs with 2 vocal mics and a couple of DIs.
Nothing excessive gain-wise & stage monitor levels are running much lower than where we have them for full bands.

    Thanks heaps mate.

BTW, ordered a QU24 today. Australian distributor doesn’t have any in stock so I need to wait about 3 weeks to get it.
    …..counting down the seconds…. 🙂

    Update: it looks promising.
I lugged my G5 PowerPC desktop, screen and a bag of assorted bits & pieces up to the venue I freelance at occasionally before it got busy tonight.

Set up my computer rig and plugged the USB cable into the QU24 then the Mac.
Booted up Logic and yes, the QU24 interface was recognised!!

I created 24 audio channels, hit record and let the computer start streaming in 24 channels.
(NOTE: the software defaults to 44.1 and nothing got recorded the first time I tried this. Once I went hunting for the audio settings for recording & changed it to be 48kHz, subsequent tests all successfully striped audio to the HD. If anyone experiences audio not being recorded to HD, check that the session has been correctly set to 48kHz)
    No crash. Excellent!
Plugged a mic into the console ch1 and did ye olde “1…2…” soundcheck and saw that there was audio reaching Logic.
    Brilliant!
    Tried the same with 2….nothing.
    Tried 3….nothing.
I had to then pack everything up & put it away in order to set up the stage for the open mic & jam night, so I couldn’t troubleshoot.

So the good news is that the QU24 is recognised by a Mac running OSX 10.4 (tiger) with the core audio protocols that were kicking around way back then.
It *should*, therefore, be possible to use an older PowerPC for multitrack recording with the QU24 as the AD-DA converter (once I work out why I was only getting an audio signal in one channel – probably all DAW inputs were set to be 1 – user error)

Hmmm……methinks I need to break open my piggy bank 😉

Hmmmm…it does sound promising. Even if it can record a maximum of 12 tracks simultaneously it will get me started with the old gear I already own!

    Thanks everyone

….The Mac has OS X 10.4.(something) on it (Tiger) if that is any help.

    Ah man!
I was looking at the specs for the Q-drive which indicated that stereo playback + multitrack recordng not available.

OK – I guess I need to go ask the bank manager for a loan now 🙂

    Excited!!

If the Qu16 or Qu32 could be upgraded somehow to be used as a multitrack interface to a computer, it would be the perfect beast for live mixing AND studio recording and I simply would have to buy one tomorrow! 🙂

It doesn’t really need to have multitrack playback simultaneously as multitrack record down the USB cable – this is asking too much of the USB bandwidth.

I would be happy with the ability to record up to 16 channels simultaneously into Logic 9 via USB, then send the pre-recorded tracks out of the computer’s internal audio port as a stereo signal back into the mixer – into a stereo input or tape return input – for monitoring purposes whilst recording up to another 16 tracks of audio through the desk via USB as overdubs.

I think Logic can have multiple audio devices as ins/outs for routing as an ‘aggregate’ device, so there is potential for this to be a reality.
