This idea comes after a poll in FB groups where the idea was supported by 94% of respondents. It applies to all platforms.
The request is that a “Surface Option” be available to display standardized gain reduction graphs for ALL emulations of gates and compressors. Users should be able to enable this feature globally which would allow faster workflows across dynamics types by always having the threshold and ratio “grabbable” on the graph. Yes for some compressor types this would be an approximation and that’s perfectly acceptable.
There should be a button to “view front panel” which would temporarily show the pretty graphics of the unit. Buttons like overeasy etc should be placed down the side of the GR graph and the histogram available for all as standard still.
Ideally there would also be a functional change allowing a drop down like selector to change emulations but keep the same “approximate” threshold, ratio, sidechain etc so you could switch between emulations without drastic audio changes mid show.
This was standard on iLive and I am still taking iLives to shows over the SQs, Avantis and dLive in our inventory because the compressor workflow is so much slower to “find” what you want.
This should also be reflected in the iPad apps as well, and hopefully third party apps like Mixing Station.
No not everyone wants it, but a lot of us do. So an option please.
