My church singers use accompaniment CD’s and require a left and right fader. The right fader typically turns up or down the background singers. I would like to use ST2 for our CD player, but can’t find a way to turn that from 1 fader to a left, right fader. Is this possible. This is a new set-up of an SQ-7. Currently we use 2 XLR channels on our older board but I’d like to try using ST2 instead.

I’m not sure what the default patch is for ST2, but if it is channels 43 and 44, go to the Setup page, Mixer Config tab, and change inputs 43/44 from stereo to mono. That will split the pair of TRS inputs to two faders. You can put the two faders anywhere you want on the surface in the Strip Assign tab.

After thinking about this for a few minutes, it might actually make sense to double assign the ST2 TRS jacks on the back to a stereo channel AND a pair of mono channels. That way you can use the same CD player for playing backing tracks (dual mono) or conventional stereo. On the I/O Patch page, simply put a new connection from ST2L to Ip37 and ST2R to Ip38. Then put those faders wherever you want them on the Strip Assign tab.

Changing the mono/stereo pairings for channels (and buses) changes them for all the scenes in a show, and that could have unintended consequences for scenes you have already saved. I tend to leave the config the way it is, and assign stereo mic inputs to the channels that are already stereo, even if they are way up at the end of the desk.

Yes, I could do that, but it doesn’t split it into a left and right fader for the same input. At this time, I can only see 1 fader for both left and right unless I’m not understanding correctly.

I don’t have the console in front of me, I just tried it with the off-line SQ MixPad on my desktop, but it works there. There is one stereo fader now, but there is nothing to stop you from going to the I/O page (far right button below the screen) and soft patching ST2L to Input 37 and ST2R to Input 38. You then need to assign Inputs 37 and 38 to positions on one of the 6 layers of the console so you actually have physical faders. The screen grab here should illustrate the soft patching.

Have you thought about paning using the left and right pan on 34/35?

If you follows Geoff’s suggestion you get two mono faders like you want.
But to make them control left and right, pan one hard left and the other hard right.

probably you would like preamps, eq, gate, compressor parameters to behave like a stereo input so you can set parameters for both channels at the same time.
Just assign both faders to a gang group if you like and enable the parameters you want to control for both channels together. Hope this helps.
