You could also simply compress the DI signals in the channels first.
The signals from the speakers of the guitar amps don’t really need to be compressed, because their signal is usually already heavily compressed.

    There are two possibilities:
    A) You first compress in the channels, then you can compress again in the subgroups.

    B) you send the subgroup to a matrix. Then you can also connect two compressors in a row (with the channel compressor even 3!).
You can’t just mix the matrix back to the master, you first have to send it out of the console (analogue via XLR, or digital routing via a Dante or MADI card) and then back into an input channel (in stereo, of course, two).
Here you would even have another compressor at your disposal, so that in the end there would be no dynamics left at all 😉

The sidechain of the insert only allows “Self” for its own channel. And that is, of course, the input signal from the point in the channel where the insert point is located. So after the gate or after the compressor.
Otherwise, however, all other channels and busses are allowed. Especially if you have a digital card installed (e.g. Dante or MADI), there are many routing possibilities. Then you can easily loop in other channels without having to leave the digital level.

What I would also like to see at this point is the loading of the Deep plug-ins in the inserts. That would solve the problem very easily.

However, due to the extensive routing possibilities, somehow a solution can always be found. You just have to think a bit more.

    Hello slo188,

if you study the documentation carefully, you can find out the answers yourself. The manual is also very well done.

    Here is the quick answer:
    1. No, you cannot load a compressor emulation directly into the insert. Neither in Insert A, nor in Insert B.
But if you want to connect several compressors in series, you can find ways. e.g. you can send a channel into a bus to compress there again.
For vocals I (almost) always use the channel compressor plus a Dyn8 in InsertB.
Dyn8 is a very powerful tool that I wouldn’t want to live without 😉

    2. you can change the position of the compressor in each channel independently.
Here you have the choice PEQ/Comp or Comp/PEQ.

    This is how it is.
I would like to describe it differently.

There are four areas on the screen:
    – The main area in the middle, where you can choose between Bank, Overview, Preamp … etc.
    – the left area, which shows an overview of Gain, Trim and the Hipass and Lopass filters.
    – the lower area, which shows the EQ depending on the configuration.
    – the right section, which is also configurable

If you now set up the functions “Gate and Compressor” in the right-hand area of the screen, for example on Page 1, a rough overview of these functions is displayed there.

As soon as you select a channel with the SEL button, these outer areas are filled with the functions of the channel.
To bring one of the functions to the centre of the main area, simply tap on it with your finger – the corresponding function is immediately displayed in large and detailed form.
This also works with the other areas such as gain or filter or EQ.

And it is all very well described in the firmware reference guide 😉

    Hello Nicola,
    Thank you for this feedback.

After installing the new firmware, we observed that after a scene recall, the IP1 controller no longer shows the currently selected scene, but the next one in the list.
This now led to irritated colleagues, and I was also not quite sure whether the correct preset was loaded.

It would be good if this would work again as before.

We also have an 15″ MBP from 2009 that is still running ElCapitan.
It always got very warm when running Director, which is why we no longer use it for this application. The processor is simply too old for the purpose.
We only use this laptop for feeds via QLab.

Hi dave, I use a C3500 and do not have this problem.

Does this also happen when you load a standard show?

This value can be read in the widget window of the screen, if Comp has been selected as the display function there.

    In the Director:
Put a group fader on the surface.
Do not press a MIX key, so that you are in the master.
In the Director, you can now see two fields under the name field of the subgroup, the right one of which is labelled “On”. If you click on it, the field turns light blue.
    – and the group is routed to the master.

    On the surface:
Put a group fader on the surface.
Do not press a MIX button so that you are in the master.
Now you can press the Assign button, which is located between the fader blocks.
Then press MIX on the fader of the group at the same time.
    – and the group is routed to the master.

By the way, this is explained very well in the manual. 😉

Hello Stix, these are very good ideas!
Thank you very much, I will certainly implement one or two of them.

    @douglas
The response does not change, but the return time of the curve changes.
