Hi there,
ZED6 and ZED8 share the same psu (in original version) . But replacing the diode SB1100 or SR1100 is completely WRONG !!! This will work for some time but the fail will repeat again after some working time. SB1100 / SR1100 shouldn’t be there. It is underrated. Also othe components need to change – recuperation circuits. There is serious design flaw. I’v recalculated and fitted by measurement. Without repairing this, the PSU will be faulty again.
Replacing componets without analyzing reasons od faliure is a silly repair way.2024/01/20 at 7:02 pm #118622GeorgeParticipantI’m late to the party here. I have a ZED60-14FX. It’s my second. First died with a power supply problem, but got replaced under warranty. Out of warranty now and the power supply has started acting up. How can I get a replacement?
2024/02/27 at 9:51 pm #119830benrupParticipantMy analog mixer ZEDi 10FX broke down recently with a shorted diode D3 on the 12V output rail. I believe the ZEDi 10FX has the same or at least very simmiliar PSU design as the ZED6/8.

(simi, I have also wrote a PN, but I am not sure if you turned on email notification so I will try here again)
Could you share with me/us your findings and the solution to fix the design flaws of this PSU, please?
Many thanks!

If I was an A&H employee and posted this I would be braced in anticipation of a proper bollocking from the brand/corp comm’s director (who still seems to be on permanent leave and/or possesses the same level of indifference for his/her career as he/she has for the brand he/she should be nuturing).
Over the last 30 years I have spent well over £125k and influeneced purchases amounting to far more A&H revenue. In the same 30 years A&H has been squeezed by vulture capitalists, sold on, bought back by management and then rinsed again/flipped over 9 times.
This explains why a hugely respected brand like A&H has lost myself and many other of my colleagues a big number accounts. And they didn’t even manage to grift a tonne of cash from expensive gear before they lost our respect and access to large budgets. No, no, no….. they killed numerous top accounts with little Zed units they could not have made any money on at all. Zeds that literally cost them money to produce that then died on their third or fourth use.
This kind of product fault would be recalled by any vaguely stable company. A good company would send prepaid DPD bags through the post, charm the customers and set their street-fighting lawyers onto the suppliers of the faulty components. A healthy company would have to. Simple economics. These failing £90 units that weren’t selling enough to make money but were selling enough and then braking enough to tarnish their top tier consoles (the money makers) with the same shitty brush. It can even spin back – if they caught the fault early they could have pulled asn ‘Atari’and filled an old tin mine with the duff units and waited until the next generation was out treasure hunting and flogging them as bits of pop bollox-culture for silly money.
Sadly, a bit like KeithJ, the moderator, all of Allen & Heath’s staff seem to be (I hate to think what’s gone on to drive the good ones to this) resigned to the fact they’ve sold a tonne of donkeys to their customers and the company isn’t prepared to do anything about it. KeithJ and any other staff should probably keep their thoughts to themselves until they have an actual solution that would solve something. Who’s going to RTB their £100 mixer at a minimum cost of £50 with an open ended parts and labour on top??????? FFS! Our time is money too you silly sods, forgetting the fact we’re not F^%$£n morons!
Now Behringer is bringing out kit, some as good as the top tier stuff for a quarter of the money, that cool but definitely second tier ALLEN & HEATH definietly has no placed in the market any more. As far as off the shelf stuff goes Behringher, Neve, SSL and Dangerous cover all the price points and continue to surprise. A&H is content with ongoing customer disappointment.
2024/07/01 at 7:39 pm #123606OllieParticipantLooks like my ZEDI 10FX power supply has just failed. I opened up and inspected the psu, but no obvious signs of damage. Have searched the web for solutions and this thread seems to offer the best chance. Have some experience of repairs and would welcome any guidance.
Thanks2024/07/02 at 9:55 am #123620Pete AlcockParticipantHi Oli, sorry to hear this has happened to your mixer too. While some on this forum have suggested replacement of certain components, I would say that just replacing the PSU module is the quickest and easiest. It’s literally a 5-minute job once you’ve got the mixer apart.
The schematic is attached is you do want to tinker though!
You’d hope that the replacement PSUs supplied by A&H will have whatever weak/under-spec component it was that fails, replaced by a better one. None of the 3 replacements I’ve fitted have since failed so this seems to be a reasonable assumption. Good luck!

I agree, replacing is defintiely the best solution and well within my skillset. I have reached out to A&H and their service partners to see if I can order the replacement module. Hopefully cost will be resonable. I’ll post update when i’m done.
Thanks!

ThanksHi Ollie. I’ve fixed a few of these now, and helped others fix their own. Very often it’s a matter of replacing a few diodes which cost a dollar or so. If that’s something you feel you might like to try, I’d be happy to help. It does carry a degree of risk as you are working with mains power on that board.
Cheers 🙂
2024/07/03 at 9:10 am #123656OllieParticipantThanks for the offer ANH. I managed to order a replacement board yesterday so I’ll see how I get on with that. If I change my mind, I’ll get in touch. Thanks!
2024/07/13 at 10:44 am #123879bmxbanditParticipantHey Pete, do you by chance have a link for an internal power supply for a zedi 10fx from A&H spares? I had my unit looked at and the we found 2 diodes that had burnt out. This repair is a little beyond my skill set though swapping out the power supply is comepletely within my skill set. Cheers
2024/07/15 at 6:59 am #123889Pete AlcockParticipantHi BMXbandit. Sorry for the delay. I’ve had great service from Adrian at AB-electronics.net. +44 (0)7780 504149. He can supply the replacement PSU module. Trust this helps. Pete.
2024/11/17 at 8:34 pm #127328djbakeszParticipantI would like to ask for your kind help. Can someone tell me exactly how much voltage the Zed6 power supply produces? The power supply of my mixer is also broken, but I would like to convert it to battery operation and turn it into an all-in-one console for places where I have to work without an AC source. Thank you in advance for your support.
2024/11/17 at 9:28 pm #127330ANHParticipantHi DJBAKESZ. It produces +12 and -12v, and 48v for the microphone phantom power. If you don’t need the phantom power, you could try a dual rail switching supply like this https://www.ebay.com/itm/381983816265 I don’t know if it will supply enough current, but it would be close and worth a shot.
2024/11/18 at 5:08 pm #127355djbakeszParticipantHi ANH,
Thanks for your fast reply.
Ther are thre wires from psu to mixer.
Do you mean -12,gnd,+12?
Where is the phantom power?2024/11/18 at 6:09 pm #127358benrupParticipantHello,
The wire that is connected with the 7812 IC is +12V.
The wire that is connected with the 7912 IC is -12V.
The remaining wire is phantom power (~50V).
Ground is connected via the metal housing. -
