2024/09/30 at 9:55 am #126042KeithJ A&HModeratorHi all,
The lack of a real time clock is a hardware design decision which means the mixer does not know the time to be able to timestamp the recording.
This decision was mainly based on two things
– It adds a surprising amount of cost for relatively little benefit (please let us know if there is anything other than the timestamping of recordings). Note that every part of the CQ (and Qu/SQ) is custom designed and built. There is no SBC where an RTC would come for free.
– It would necessitate a battery which would need replacing and could leak, or a super cap which again adds cost and complications (how big? how often are shows?)
Determining time by some other means is something we have been investigating, but as with all potential features, we cannot say if it will definitely be included in a future firmware as we never know until it’s been developed and fully tested. As it’s not a definite ‘no this can never happen’ however, we’ve not jumped in on this thread before.
If this thread continues as one of the most popular suggestions, it will be prioritised for more development time. Thanks,

As an idea of use, I use it 1-3 times a week, and during a work, I have at least 3-5 recorded multitrack parts every working day.
Maybe a good idea would be for the file name to take something from the numerology of the folder = so that, for example, when editing a video when a file needs to be relinked…you don’t have the SAME FILE NAME in the different folders of that working day .
Great in everything!2024/09/30 at 12:49 pm #126046evellin44ParticipantThank you Keith for answering to this thread. You take the time but you did it !
Well, it’s clear for me that this thread is the most popular on CQ Serie 🙂
So any software solution will be better for me than the actual timestamps.

another potential workaround might be to have the recording folder name be inherited from the scene in use. I often date scenes and save them at the outset of a show.

record a SMPTE Time Code to a channel. Then you can always sync to video using software. And see relative times between recordings. It will cost you 1-channel.
Futurewise AH could make a time-code ‘grabber’ that will continue at free run from that point (if the timing is stable while turned on).
But I have to say, that is a ‘pro’ feature. Don’t know if that should be targeted to a ‘CQ’ product.

In this topic the users are missing a “time stamp” – not a time code.2024/11/09 at 4:38 pm #127165VinParticipant+1

An option for manually labeling a file could be helpful…maybe a compromise given the lack of clock on the SQ?

Hard to believe these mixers don’t have onboard timestamps…
I recorded multiple tracks the other day impossible so sort them out, they all have random dates and time.I hope it’s not an engineering issue and they forgot to add a clock battery to the RTC…
