I’ve tried numerous times to create a multitrack recording from stem files in the SQ7 still refuses to read it.

The directory structure is correct, it finds it as a multi-track recording directory, but when I asked him to load it it says it’s bad format.

The files are 48 kilohertz 24-bit mono PCM. soxi says that it’s in WAV_FORMAT_EXTENDED rather than WAV_FORMAT_PCM, but both sox and ffmpeg refuse refuse to write it in plain PCM despite arguments to force it, I believe because of the bit depth >16

The multi-track session saved from the sq7 however also shows extended wav format, so I can’t be certain that’s the problem.

Has anyone managed to assemble a multitrack from scratch? What does your wav header look like?

You could try using the guide here – https://support.allen-heath.com/hc/en-gb/articles/4402940122001-SQ-Re-Rendering-Files-for-SQ-Drive-Multitrack-Playback
This uses Reaper, which you could use to create and test something, then compare headers if wanting to set up something yourself (outside of Reaper).

    Thanks,
    Keith.
