I’m a rookie, but I think I have a good grasp of DCA vs Group vs Aux. I will be mixing a musical theater production. I want to take all the ensemble mics and put them into a group for processing. My question is, since I want to use a DCA for the ensemble during the show, should I assign all the inputs to a DCA or should I just assign the group to the DCA? Which is best practice?

If ensemble mics are just only going to the main mix via the audio
group you could just use the audio group master to control their collective levels.

If there are any post fade aux mixes or other routing outputs feeding directly
from those channels that need to track the mix then you would need those channels
on a DCA for control as well.
