Hi,
Been using a QU32 for over 10 years and now upgrading to an SQ7 buying second hand one.
is it streaigh forward to register purchased plugins to a second hand desk? and can i register the desk? or does the previous owner have to unregister etc.
Also is there any way to demo the plugins before purchasing?

When buying so-called add-ons, it makes no difference whether you buy them for a new or used SQ.
You only need the serial number of the hardware and a DNA number of the “software”.
You will receive an activation code based on these informations.> Also is there any way to demo the plugins before purchasing?
Something like that would be ideal and fair, but unfortunately you have to buy a pig in a poke.
The only way I know of is to try the add-ons on a console where they are already installed. You should also consider:
If your SQ breaks seriously and you don’t want to repair it, your add-ons are gone too.2024/11/19 at 9:55 pm #127391BrianParticipantAs far as demoing the plugins, there isn’t really a way to do that. Still, they really do closely match the hardware units they emulate, so if you have used other examples of the emulations or the hardware unit’s themselves, the A&H version is going to work very closely. If you don’t have any experience with the emulations, then you might get an idea for what they can do via videos on YouTube. You could also try some demo versions of the Waves plugins that match the emulation models. The Waves demos work, they will just randomly cut the audio out for a ver seconds every couple of minutes. It prevents you from using them in a live environment, but work well enough to allow you to “play” with them.

Ok thanks for the info. So once activated on the desk that’s it forever on that desk by the sounds of it.
So anyone upgrading from an SQ5 to an SQ7 would have to purchase them all again? No way to move them onto the new desk? Same if the desk breaks and you buy another type situation.

The add-ons you have purchased are practically permanently and irreversibly connected to the console.I wrote something similar in another thread:
It is incomprehensible that (as a freelancer) you cannot use your own purchased add-ons on the desk you are currently working on (or have to work on).
SQ rental companies in particular avoid buying add-ons because not everyone needs them.In 2024, the following should not be a problem for a technical company like A&H:
You can purchase the license for add-ons and activate them on a console using a code.
But if necessary, you should also be able to deactivate them on this console and get a corresponding deactivation code from the console, which you send to A&H.
This would free up the add-ons again and you could activate them on another console using the original procedure.
This would ensure that an add-on can only be used on one device at a time.It would be important for the user to have the tools they have purchased available only on the desk they are currently using.
It is pointless to have them on a desk they cannot currently use.
I know technicians who do not have their own console but would buy add-ons for the consoles they are working on.2024/11/20 at 1:51 pm #127417trickytrevParticipantI also think this hurts. I have add-ons on my SQ5, but I always have to supply it (instead of the rental company or event organiser supplying one of theirs) if I want to use the add-ons in my show file.
So then they have to install my desk prior to the gig – just for the add-ons. A little bit silly…2024/11/20 at 6:10 pm #127427crizdeeParticipantHi,
Yes somewhat bizarre 🤷♂️
Is it the same on the Avantis?
An auth file on your usb stick would surely work somehow?
