Learning to use my new CQ-18T – love it so far!
Did my first gig and had one problem – the CQ-MixPad lost connection 4 times during a 30 minute show. Every time I reconnected without problem. I may be wrong, but it seemed to happen when I hadn’t touched the tablet screen for a while.
I used the CQ internal wifi and was standing no more than 20 meters away. The tablet is a Samsung S2 (which is maybe considered old by now, but it works). I also noticed a delay when switching menu (I think someone else reported that). None of this had any impact on the sound, which was excellent the whole time.
Is this a tablet problem? Should I get a new, faster one?
I have iPad and Lenovo Android tablets of the same vintage and while you need to compare processors to get a real idea of where bottlenecks are, there is definite barely a lag in the feedback from the UI on the Lenovo Android tablet it is hard to measure but negligible on the iPad and around 1 second on the Lenovo. Both tablets are about 2 years old but the iPad was more expensive………
As for the lost charger injection, It has been reported on iOS devices but not to my knowledge on Android. Having used both Sound raft an Behringer digital “Stagebox” mixers are the past, the WiFi 🛜 s much more resilient in the CQs than he other two.
I had drop outs during our last gig with my iPad Air. I changed the CQ over to 5Ghz wifi and it solved it, room was probably swimming with a boat load of 2.4Ghz, the switch helped. cheers
Ooops! I read about the 5 GHz recommendation in several other posts, but forgot to test it…
Did a quick try now, and (as expected) the 5 GHz gave me about half the connected distance compared to 2.4 GHz, but at the next gig I will run 5 GHz for sure.
I will also look into getting a new tablet…
Thanks!
Changing to 5ghz cured any connection dropping problems for me too👍😉👍
I don’t use the internal wifi for 2 main reasons… 1. Forces me to have to change between wifi networks to connect to the internet. No ability to bridge to another network in wifi mode. 2. Its just Wifi5 (ac). Wifi 5 is prone to disconnections when there is congestion, such as 300 people on their devices.
In my experience if you want reliable wifi at an event use Wifi 6 or 6E. Wifi 6 has ofdma and such that helps allot I congested areas.
