I would love Allen & Heath to chime in with the actual headroom before clip that you have on an input channel when you hit the red “0” on the PPM meters.

    Hi there Cheu.
Nice to see you here. If I am right in guessing that they “opto” is an LA-2a emulation then, the way it operates is way different. I do like the opto emulation, but the way I use an LA-2a is to drive the input gain a little to excite the harmonics. The LA-2a is a great little toaster for this task and then I drop the threshold to suit for compression. So I am really doing two jobs with a real LA-2a. I like the flexibility of the opto emulation, but it takes away some of the original devices function. The ability to control it both ways would be great.

ddff, that comment is a little misleading as not all digital consoles have the same metering. For instance if you push a Yamaha digital board within a few db of clipping then you will have no headroom as their metering is PPM. With their boards -18 seems to work best.
However, the A&H boards use different metering and you can drive it much as you described, or more like an analog board.

I agree with the above summation. The d-live seems to have buckets of headroom and likes to have the inputs pushed. Running it conservatively is almost eerily clean.

    Hi Cameron
I have the system mentioned by Adam in Brisbane. S5000 with DM48 and Dante.

Yes please! DCA spill or unfold or whatever you would like to call the A&H version.

Have a look at the GLD editor Paul. I imagine it may be similar to this or even better.

A nice work around, but possibly a step too many. Surely mute groups as an option for user defined keys is not that hard.

I have mixed regularly on an i-live and just purchased a GLD. They give me a similar sound. The GLD has faster processing or maybe it just takes less time to send a command locally than down the core. The channel drag & drop on the GLD is fantastic. It is such a simple console and I am very happy with it. I also have a couple of LS9’s as well and they still have their place. The Yamaha ipad control is second to none.
Does the GLD sound as good as my Digidesign Venue board…no. But it was 1/4 the price and I can lift the GLD myself, whereas the venue takes a few guys to lift correctly.

I am looking forward to a Mixwizard version of the GLD as a small rack mounted corporate board. That will kill in the market.

If you send the headset to a group before going to the FOH masters, then you will have a graphic EQ on the group.

The PFL is smart enough to control cue to all members of the DCA at one time.

You may want to leave the feet to give you yourself space for airflow though. Butting rack units up against each other is never a recommended idea.

I would also like to know this. Comms and DMX in the same CAT run would be nice.
