I’m wondering if this would be an okay use of the multi-surface feature.

I had seen the multi-surface mode of the dLive and thought it could be used to upgrade both our medium and small sized room at the same time. Both rooms currently have a TF3 but the smaller room only ever uses 6 channels max.
For the medium sized room we would put the CDM48 and a surface then for the smaller room we would run an I/O expander like the DX168 and control it with Director and an IP8. Using Surface Roles we could lock out each room from controlling each other.

One reason for wanting to go with dLive was for the Custom Control panels for easy startup and operation for small events. Is it possible to have a separate custom control panel layout for each room and not show the same for both?

You can assign layouts to users.
