I have a QU32 and my drummer wants to go with headphones as monitors (wired). Do I need a headphone amp to wired? Or can I go straight from the snake into the headphones using the proper cabling? My drummer uses the QU app to control his mix.

You might get some sort of signal, but it’s entirely possible to fry the dSnake output as well.A headphone amp is pretty cheap – a keyboard player I know uses a tiny Yamaha desk as their h/phone amp (gives them easily accessible volume control as well), ingenerslly use a rack mounted amp along with a Fischer body pack

Sweetwater has some very inexpensive headphone amps, and I’m sure your local music store could get them fairly inexpensive as well. At my church, we had to enclose our drummer since he beats them really hard. I can only imagine how loud it is inside that enclosure. The minimal signal being returned would not be loud enough over just the ambient sound from the drums. The headphones would just be acting as ear plugs for the drummer.

Curious if you ever considered e-drums such as the Roland TD30 or TD50. I am a drummer and while I adore my acoustic kit, my Roland comes in handy quite often. They sound unbelievable and would solve the noise problem. Just thought that might be helpful for you to know.

In our band we used this setup for IEMs for drummer and keyboard which make it reeeeally easy for them during shows.
I made two mono AUX-mixes for them each. One with their instrument, another with the rest of the band.
Then using “Behringer Powerplay P1” (headphone amp in the belt) in “dual mono” they ultra fast can adjust “me” vs band,
and also the main volume in their in-ears. They rarely have to use the Qu-You app….2017/09/30 at 11:13 am #65466EdParticipantI believe the QU-32 mix outputs are the same dB and impedance as the headphone output. I wired two XLR females to a TRS male. I plugged the XLRs into a stereo mix output from my QU-32, plugged the TRS into a 50’copper snake and got ample output on the other end using 50 ohm phones. I run a QU-16 at church with this same arrangement, but I use a Sennheiser headphone amp, mainly as a protective buffer. I cannot comment on a digital snake which I cannot afford but lust for.

But please share more. I’ve never used IEMs; how do you prevent feedback caused by other monitors or speakers from inadvertently entering the IEMs, or does the headphone amp keep the dBs below a damaging level? Any info appreciated as I am contemplating offering that option.
