    Hi folks,

Our QU-16 as of a few months ago started to power off randomly and i’m trying to see if I can find the root cause of this. It’s been sent off for repair to Audio Technica who couldn’t re-create the problem. We received the desk back and it seemed fine again for a few shows, but then powered off again whilst at rehearsal a few weeks ago. The desk is 10 years old and was purchased new and has lived in a hardcase all of it’s life. It is also running the latest firmware.

Is there any way to access any sort of log file dump that might show what the issue is with the desk and what might be causing it to power off? Any other suggestions on what might be causing this issue?

    Many thanks.

Have you tried a regulated powersupply ?

Plug the Qu into a UPS for power, and see if you still have the problem.

After it powers off does it stay off or just cycle right back on?

It stays off, I have to manually switch it back on.

Would be great if there was access to logs to see what was happening.

When it goes out/off does moving the power switch around while not pushing it
do anything, how about the power cord connection.
Maybe give it a couple firm taps on the side and see what happens.

When it goes off is it dead, no leds still glowing or anything?

    Hi Mike,

When it goes off, it’s completely dead with no leds. Sometimes takes a minute or so before we can switch it back on again.

    Overheating?

That said I’m not sure what they do if they actually do overheat!

Check the diagnostics page and see what the operating temp is.

We have exactly this issue. Came to light last night at a gig. Our engineer borrowed the desk for a show a couple of months back and had same issue. We sent to be looked at and again problem not recreated in test conditions, put it down to bad ICU. Desk back and a couple gigs without a problem. Last night, a total disaster. Powered out about 5 times and sent the show sideways. Had a fan o. The desk blowing under the unit which made almost no difference. But eventually moved it to the back vents and this stopped any further shutdowns. Not a fix but might help. Desk is 10 years old and one of the UK ones. It apparently has mods on it which are indicative of the early ones. Desk has done us proud and doesn’t really owe us anything but disappointed that such a rock solid bit of kit is suffering a problem that has let us down so badly.

Operating temp was 59 during shit down events and the fluctuated from 53/54 when stable during latter section of set.

Dust buildup? If there are heat sinks inside, maybe came loose? Loose wire that manifests at high temp?
