We have an SQ-7 with a GX4816 connected via Cat 6 cable. Every once in a while over the past 9 months, we would have one drop out of sound… it all disappears for about 8-9 seconds, and then comes back. It was hard to trace since it would only happen once every 20-40 hours of use.
BUT.. three weeks ago, it happened a bunch (5-10 times) in one hour. We though maybe the network cable, and we had a spare (really good shielded) spare, so we ran it for the second half of the day… but again, the sound dropped out multiple times over 70 minutes.
We placed someone at the board as well as at the GX4816, and watched it to find out what was happening when we lost sound.
    1. READY light goes out (GX Network and Power lights remain steady.
    2. SOME (About half?) of the 48 volt phantom power lights turn off at the same time.
    3. about 8 seconds later, the GX Network light flickers off, then everything comes back to normal.
    4. while the ready light is off… all meters back on the SQ are blacked out except for the two mics that are directcly conneccted to the SQ… they still work, but of course no sound.

At this point, we are trying to figure out…
    1. bad GX?
    2. Bad SQ?
    3. Bad cable?
    4. Bad / Shorted Phantom?
    5. Bad electricity?

    Any clues would be appreciated.

From what you have said, it sounds like a hardware issue with the GX4816. Perhaps the power supply is going bad for example. Alternatively, there is a tiny chance that the power feeding the GX4816 is unreliable. If the box isn’t already being powered off a battery backup power supply or power conditioner, I would suggest trying that out to see if it makes a difference. I would certainly reach out to your distributor for further help, especially if the box is still under warranty.
