my SQ6 has developed to be a great Live Mixing and Recording Platform for years now. But there is a thing I would like:
1) Make more functions assignable to soft Button Usage: one function triggered when pressing the button, one when holding the button for a longer time, and two more when releasing after short/long time.
One usage example could be a Tap Delay: one could set the tap time with press and release instead of double tapping or one could set short press to define the tap time and a long press to enable/disable the FX Engine or a bypass to the FX Bus.
That could even be a question of usage security since you could assign critical functionality (“dangerous” scenes) to long button presses so they are not activated when just tapping a wrong button by accident.
Of course one also could assign a second scene Level to Buttons this way, e.G. short Button Press: load Scene A, long Button Press: load Scene B.
2) If A&H would make the Mix Buttons to Soft Buttons and create assignable Functions “switch to Mix” and “switch to previous Mix” as well, that could be the way to realize a long-asked feature: make “mix” Buttons behave like the talkback (short press and long press: switch to Mix, long release: switch to previous Mix, other two options set to “do nothing”, result: when holding a Mix Button while doing adjustments the Console will switch back to main mix when releasing the Mix Button).
3) When assigning FX Parameters to soft Rotaries, it should be possible to additionally assign any normal soft button Function to the Rotary Button, especially “load Scene”.
Also it should be possible to define “Soft Rotary assigments” as a Scene Filter Option.
That would give the possibility to use the soft rotaries for several FX Parameters and use the soft rotary Buttons to switch that between FX Engines, Channels or Busses.
Usage Example:
On a SQ6, assign Threshold, Attack, Hold and Release of a Compressor to the 4 Rotaries. Then create 3 other scenes doing the same but with Compressors on different Channels. Build Ganging Groups or use Compressors in Group Busses to couple similar channels if necessary.
Set the Scene Load Filters to “Soft Rotary assigments” only.
Finally assign the rotary Buttons: Short press: loading one of that 4 scenes, long press: enabling/disabling the corresponding Compressor. This way, you have nearly complete Compression Control over 4 Channel Groups on your soft rotaries – In a Band, that could be lead Vocals, Background Vocals and Drum Compressors. Or in a Orchestra/Big Band setup: Choir, Solo Singer, Brass, Woodwinds.
Even more would be possible by using some additional soft buttons for more scene Assignments. Of course, on a SQ7 you would have 8 Rotaries and Buttons so you could assign even more Parameters (EQ, second FX, whatever you may need) and Channels as well.
4) and a last wish: if a button is assigned to load a Scene, it would be nice if that button could be highlighted as long as that Scene is “current” scene.
