Aha…I had a feeling from your OP that it was more towards zydec/swamp-pop rather than straight Cajun. Higher stage volume makes for more monitor concern. At least he used an external clip-on rather than something mounted inside the grill. Much more natural sound that way.
You might think about taking the line out signal from the wireless RX and running it without a DI into one of the ST inputs. I seldom run out of channels because of the kit as I use kick/snare only…maybe hat if the player uses it a lot with expression Otherwise on my stages the vocal mics pick up the cymbals. I have a kick/OH/OH setup I can use in a lot of situations to get a nicely balanced, full kit sound.
