So this question keeps popping up in my mind and I’m wondering how you guys are dealing with this.
I want to add two analog distressors to my sq5 for lead vocals, but I can’t figure out how to do this.
All the forum messages are linking this video where the guy just uses Mic Input 1 and Line output 1 locally on the SQ5. While I can understand the Line Output 1, I’m puzzled why we ever want to use a mic input on a mixer to an analog Line output of a compressor.
– I don’t want to use a mic preamp in my line signal chain of the compressor.
– people are saying to use the pad, but I don’t want to risk phantom power going directly in my distressors. That would destroy them.
– Just being careful isn’t an option. I’ve got a lot of shows I load without knowing for sure if the mic input on the SQ has phantom power or not.
– all my line in channels on my SQ are already in use.
So how are you guys dealing with this? I don’t think using a mic preamp is a professional and safe way to use as an insert for analog gear. It’s weird I don’t find the correct way anywhere online.
