Sharing this with the group for informational purposes.

My band got caught with our pants down at our last gig and since the release of the new Firmware 1.2.

We all run IEMs on stage and use CQ4You to control our monitor mixes.
Long story short, everyone’s devices auto-updated the CQ4You App to match the new FW but our desk was still on V1.13 so no one couuld connect. The app said it was incompatible and update the desk to V1.2

Thankfully, the main CQ app still worked on the iPad so we could get after it that way and still run the desk remote. Otherwise we would have REALLY been hosed up.

I don’t typially jump on every new firmware straight away. I like wait a bit and make sure it’s stable first. Been bitten by that more than once (I’m looking at you Line-6).

I don’t like that Allen & Heath basically forces the issue since updated companion apps are not backwards compatible with older firmware.

Other than that, I do love this desk. It’s an absolute brilliant product at an amazing price point and I do hope they continue to develop it further. And it does make sense why there may not be a way to make the companion Apps backwards compatible because it would need to match up with the new features of the desk wouldn’t it? This just caught us by surprise so wanted to make sure others are aware of what to expect.

I got burned by the exact same thing last week. NOT FUN.
Furthermore, WHY isn’t the CQ4You App available for older operating systems? I have piles of old ipads, phones and tablets that i use to run my QU-Pac with (QU-4you app) with no problems. Pretty much none of these devices let me install CQ4You, rendering them useless for the intended purpose. Grrrrrr!

+1, same happened to us.

Plus: using an IEM setup is pretty new to us, and I’m the designated nerd who convinced everyone to go IEM and now tries hard to keep everyone’s experience as positive as possible.
This firmware snafu did NOT help acceptance.

The firmware update was really great – but a pending update should NEVER break a production system!

So I have a similar issue where my Main ipad forced the update on the CQ firmware to 1.2.1.

I assumed my iphone would them upsate the cQ4You as well but it wont and now my phone is useless. Any lnow how to force the update? the Ap store only loads 1.2.0. O am stuck!

Hi all,

It is only possible to keep one app version on the store at a time and the messaging used for app control often changes with feature firmware releases in both the mixer and the app.
For this reason, the firmware and app feature version should match on all our digital mixers, though with dLive and Avantis, we have recently added a switch in settings for ‘previous version compatibility mode’ which effectively runs the app as it was in the last version. This might be something we bring to other ranges in future.

Generally we suggest turning off auto app updates on control devices, so you don’t get stuck in a field without being able to connect and updating becomes a choice.
On CQ however, the firmware is included in CQ-MixPad, so it’s less of an issue as if your app has updated, you can simply update the mixer when you first connect.
As of V1.2.1, you have the option to carry out the maintenance update, but don’t have to do so in order to connect, as the messaging won’t change with maintenance updates.

Regarding not being able to run apps on older devices, this is because both Apple and Google have discontinued support for 32-bit apps over the past few years. All new apps must therefore be 64-bit and cannot run on older 32-bit hardware or operating systems.

Thanks,
Keith.

ok good info but I still need guidance on what to do about my iPhone10 that I use for monitor on stage mix. I need it fixed Friday for a gig. The CQ4You is on V1.2.0. As far as I can tell this is the late version. CQ4You ap runs on the iPhone10 but will no longer see my mixer after I updated the hardware CQ mixer to 1.2.1 firmware. Other band members can connect with v1.2.0 on their phones.

My iPad pro has both CQ mix Pad v1.2.1 as well as CQ4You on V1.2.0 and both works fine on the iPad. I thus assume each ap has its’ own version level, correct?

My iPhone 10 has CQ4You on V1.2.0 and it stopped working as mentioned above. Also for some reason I can no longer load the CQ Mix Pad on the iPhone and there are no issue with the phone. What could have changed and what can I do to resolve this issue? What settings can I look at? I desperately need this to work again. Hope someone can help. Thank you all!

@reddmonster

CQ-MixPad is not (and has never been) available for the iPhone. Apple have a minimum widget size so it’s not possible for us to offer it across all devices (as we do with Android).

With CQ4You, please check that you have allowed the app local network access in your privacy settings. This is an extra security measure that was introduced by Apple and although it gives you a popup the first time you open the app, it’s easy to miss, and if you do, you’ll need to manually allow access.

If you’re still having problems, you can contact us for assistance through support.allen-heath.com

Thanks,
Keith.

Thanks again. I checked in the settings and it was set to allow CQ4You access. Any other suggestions?
