If all the channels in a DCA group are muted, can you please allow the option for that DCA master fader to display a mute light. Not sure if or how I want the mute button of the DCA to function….that could be a good discussion, but it tends to be confusing for our church volunteers when everything is muted, but the drum DCA appears to be unmuted.

    Thoughts??

The mute button on SQ works as it always has with any of the A&H digital desks. I don’t understand how there is any confusion. If a channel is muted by its own mut button alone the mute is steady red, if it is muted by mute group or DCA it flashes. Where is the confusion in that?

He wants to see the muted channels (within the DCA), visually via the DCA Mute button.

His channels might be layer D and his users dont want to go layer diving.

    It’s a really good idea

JuzzyQLD is correct. I have an SQ5 and often use a Drum DCA on my main layer. When all the drum channels are muted within that DCA, the DCA could show a mute of some sort to indicate that the included channels are all muted.

+ 1 this would definitely be helpful.

That being said, be sure you are using the DCA spill functionality of the console. This way you are only one button press away from seeing all of the channel in that DCA group and there is really never a need to go “layer diving”. For example, if I’m not hearing the drums like I’d expect/want, the my first reaction is going to be to press the drum DCA button to be able to see and mix all of those individual channels anyway. No layer changes required.

I do regularly forget about the DCA Spills. Thanks for the reminder.

The same would then apply analogously to the mute groups?

This option could possibly be helpful, but I still don’t understand the correct use case:
If the technician is supposed to see that all the paths of the drums DCA are muted, even though the DCA is not muted, who goes to level D first to mute everything individually, even though it would be much easier in the current level with the entire DCA?
And won’t the technician think that if the DCA is not flashing, all the channels of the DCA are unmuted, even though perhaps only one of 8 is open.
    Please help me understand this.
Until then, I also think that DCA spill could be the better way.
