I’m really glad this thread exists. Thanks to all who figured this out and wrote out instructions! The instructions posted by Mawo on the first page were absolutely perfect!
In my case, I had an older motherboard than the datasheets that were linked. So I managed to find the right one:

My next time opening this board, I plan to pull a block level image of the SSD and see if I can replace it with a much larger capacity SSD. I’m really concerned about the 2gb SSD write cycle limit. A 32gb or 64gb SSD will have a much better write cycle, even if data is only taking up 2gb. Then I can do a factory reset of the board and have a clean image of an SSD. I doubt that Allen-Heath would provide us with a new image or SSD, especially since this board is EOL. But I’ve been wrong before.
2021/08/21 at 11:42 pm #103046I had an emergency call on an iLive that had the white screen, no boot issue. I managed to get it to boot by holding the Utilities button while turning on the board. Not sure what version of SBC this board was running or if this will work for everyone. I just figured I’d share my experience for anyone who might find this.

I’ve also seen the strip completely fail to turn on (display and backlight off) and the display information fail to turn on, but the backlight works. As mentioned above, this could be an issue with the USB cable internally. It is rare for this to happen for me, and it always seems to happen when the console starts up. So a quick reboot fixes it for me.
I haven’t flashed the latest firmware 1.6, but according to the release notes, there are no fixes for anything like this. It probably just is that USB cable or corrosion on the connections.
2017/10/25 at 12:50 pm #65863Look at Allen and Heath’s timeline. They actually took down the software timeline, or at least I can’t find it anymore. This is a replacement to the GLD. It has roughly the same idea behind it (48 channels, fully configurable I/O, etc.)
The GLD hasn’t had an update in over 2 years. Apparently selling you a $10k console, then dropping the price by almost 50%, then only giving you updates for 3 years is good enough for them. They won’t give us GLD users another feature update. They don’t care about us. They did this exact same thing with the iLive.
Now don’t get me wrong. My GLD is amazing. I love that console. It does a lot of what I want it to do. Its missing some simple features that would be super easy to implement. But overall, a great console. Its also not like the GLD is going to completely stop functioning as a sound board just because a new product was released. It just sucks to know that your 5 year old console (it came out in 2012, purchased in 2014) is already considered an old product.
Look at Yamaha and their LS9 and M7CL. Those consoles were released back in 2005/2006 if I’m not mistaken. Their last update to those consoles was early 2014. So they gave you updates for 8 to 9 years. Why can’t Allen and Heath give you updates for close to that?
2017/09/14 at 4:37 am #65251That’s the exact problem I ran into and why my project stopped. If the config was a standard text file, then anyone could build an editor. Heck, I could have built a super simple menu based editor using CMD Prompt in about 30 minutes.
I wrote my GUI in Java. Its the quickest way I could build a pretty GUI. It has all 16 buttons and a screen (which is actually kinda useless). I would have to find it and see exactly where I was in my project. It was about 1 year ago and a lot has changed since then. But like I said, before I can go any further, I would need to figure out how to write a config file. Else the entire project is useless.
I may take one of these devices apart and see what kind of hardware it uses. It’s probably some custom made circuit boards in there, but it’s worth a shot. Maybe I get lucky and there is a Texas Instruments logic controller or something like that! I still have my books on working with logic controllers, so I would at least be able to attempt to work with it.
2017/09/13 at 2:10 pm #65239I’ve built my own GUI for the editor and then started working on the configuration file portion. It seems to be a binary file, which is difficult to decompress and get into a readable format. The ME units don’t run a Linux OS or similar. They are embedded devices, so working with their firmware or config files is much more complicated. I feel like I would almost need to somehow emulate the firmware in order to read and write the config.
It really sucks that Allen & Heath doesn’t care about their users. The stopped supporting the GLD after about 3 years of it being on the market. They don’t release upgrades for their products or add new features. I don’t see myself buying another A&H product again. Sure I will probably pay more for a Yamaha or other product, but at least I will get what I pay for.

I submitted my files to A&H support in mid December, but I have not heard back in almost 4 months. This is probably a firmware issue, but A&H is too busy supporting their new products to come out with new firmware for their “old” products.
I can’t seem to track the issue down to a certain cause, so I don’t have any easy fix or workaround.
I have the ME config saved to a USB drive, and I just reload the config on each device every time this happens. It’s annoying, but it’s the only thing that we can do at this point.
2017/01/15 at 3:13 pm #60580Yes, the issue had hundreds of USB errors that just kept scrolling. That’s when the console became very slow and then completely unresponsive. I don’t remember if it was a blank scene on reboot, but it is possible. If you still see USB errors in the Diagnostics page, please get those over to A&H as they didn’t see anything in my logs.

I’m sure a lot of people could actually use this, but Allen and Heath doesn’t care about all of their products. So I am going to start making my own. I have a good amount of experience working with Java. I could probably make a simple GUI editor in a few days (probably longer because I work and am still in college). I just have to find out how to pull apart the configuration file that the ME mixer outputs. If I can manage to do this, I will successfully make my own editor. If any other developers have any input on how the config file is written, feel free to let me know what you find.
2016/08/21 at 12:24 am #57751As of right now, you have the following options on the direct out (sound going to the ME-1 units):
1. Follow Mute – if enabled, when you mute a channel on the board, it will be muted on the ME-1 unit. If disabled, muting a channel on the board will not mute it on the ME-1.
2. Follow Fader – if enabled, the channel fader on the board will change the volume of the sound going to the ME-1 units. If disabled, the fader does not impact the sound going to the ME-1 units.
3. Direct out source – I won’t list all of the options, but you can choose at any point in the input path to take the sound and route it to the ME-1 units. For example, you can send the sound right after it hits the preamp, or you can let it go through the preamp, high pass filter, and gate before sending to the ME-1 units.If you mute a DCA, that will not mute any of the sound going to a ME-1 unit.
I recommend downloading the PC app and playing around with it. That will give you a very good idea of how the GLD will operate.
2016/08/20 at 3:07 pm #57740I wouldn’t say that the GLD is an old board. It was released near the middle of 2012. So its a little over 4 years old. That seems really quick for even Allen and Heath to kill off a board. The iLive lasted from 2007(?) until the last firmware release in late 2012.
Yes, the firmware is stale. Allen and Heath doesn’t seem to care about many of their customers. But thats not to say that the firmware is bad. the iPad app isn’t the best, but there is an excellent app for Windows and Mac. It gives you a picture of the board and gives you control to almost everything.
With the current feature set, I love the GLD. Its an excellent console. It is very easy to use, but also has a lot of power behind it. With A&H’s track record, I would say that we should expect at least one more update to the GLD before they kill it off. For the mid-size console, there isn’t too much else out there.
