Robert – Just get it ordered! you will not regret it – We do all sorts of events – everything from corporate AV, Bands, Concerts to Theatre productions etc. One of my main concerns was the scene capability for Theatre shows however with current firmware (vers 1.5 or greater) the scenes can be customised to include or exclude what you need to store. There are a few things that are still missing that would be a good – as Mr B said a multiband compressor would be good. You still can’t side chain the compressors so you can’t to ducking etc but these features and other requests are known to A & H and are likely to show up in future firmware upgrades. A&H support has been fantastic with listening to end user requests and technical issues. I had a problem after a firmware upgrade due to customised network address’s and this was quickly sorted via the support site and the issue was fixed in the following firmware release. I think they sound great, are easy to use, and with the wireless laptop capability/ Digital snake offer features and power not available from any other manufacturer in the price range (to date anyway).

    Hey Lieven

Just looking at the photo’s of your Mixrack/ raodcase set up. Looks impressive! What is the multi cable you use for the iLive – with power, 2 x Cat5, 1 x Audio? I’ve been looking for something like that. I have found the Sommer Cable SC-MonoCat Power212 ( https://www.sommercable.com/2__default/index.html ) which looks good but expensive. Have you had any issues with power and data down the same cable? Also have you terminated this to a plug socket at the rack end that accepts the different cable types including mains power or does it split out to tails?

    Cheers

Anyone from A&H know when we might see side chain/ducking options available? This has been requested by others and I have needed ducking capability on a couple of jobs now. I have a fashion show coming up where I need live mic’s to duck music levels and it seems incredible that this can’t be done on the iLive yet – or have I missed something?

Should be no problem at all. Ive had 24 channels of wireless receivers at the IDR mixrack location plus a wireless router and had no problems.

Thanks Sam – plus PAFL, don’t forget PAFL! This would be great for backstage radio mic monitoring where tech only needs to listen to channels.

“Unfortunately T-Series surfaces do not have PL-Anet sockets fitted so to use these features you will need an iLive surface.”

Yeah i agree Tuejo – Double Bummer! I was thinking of getting a PL6 or Pl10 to use with my T112 but as I will be unable to access Channel mix and Sel keys and would have to run a cable from the mixrack then I think it’s probably a no go’er for FOH use with the T series. I would like the Midi Spec to support channel Mix,PAFL,pan,& sel keys? Especially the Mix and PAFL keys. Also direct Midi in/Out support for the Editor software would make it possible to use external Midi Controllers with a wireless laptop. Can anyone from A&H reading this request comment on weather this might be a future possibility? Cheers

I’ve developed a custom environment in Logic Audio that lets a Mackie Control talk to the iLive. It provides seamless linked moving faders, Mutes and DCA assignments plus banks to access EVERY channel on the ilive – 128 channels! It also has a Solo in place mode, 32 stand-alone memory scenes (levels/mutes), direct DCA access and you can create custom channel layouts or custom channel scene recalls (ie only recall levels/mutes of channels 3,4,10-16 etc) Check out the screen grab pic of it’s inner workings!
Still a work in progress but I have already used it for radio mic monitoring backstage on a theatre show (21 radios) and our Radio tech loved it. I will do a video and post on line some time.

Check out info & screen grab pics here: https://srforums.prosoundweb.com/index.php/mv/msg/41404/479670/22964/#msg_479670

This environment is set up more to use a Mackie Control as a control surface live along side the editor software but you could also use an iLive surface as a controller for Logic with it! The iLive MIDI spec only supports Fades/Mutes, DCA assignments, colour and naming (I’ve not supported that)and scene program change messages. If the iLive MIDI spec was expanded to include Mix/Pafl,Sel keys plus pans etc then a Mackie Control would be very powerful sitting beside a laptop with editor running.

I’m with MrB – I also always use the iLive with a UPS connected! I power both the mix rack, a wireless router and the surface from one UPS mounted with the IDR48. One power cable from the UPS in the mix rack out to FOH surface. Without a UPS it could take less than a second of dropped power to put you in the very uncomfortable 2 min wait for restart – not to mention that an intermittent power supply could cause serious damage to the system – it is after all a processor/computer/network with a few audio connections! If an over eager roadie pulls your power at the end of the gig you can still save your show and shut down correctly. Very cheap insurance in my book!

I use the UPS power switch to turn on/off the Mix Rack. More accessable than the IDR rear power switch and as you have to press and hold the UPS switch it won’t get accidently bumped.

Keep voting people. If we want the iLive to get accepted on equipment riders then it could really benefit from an award! Use different computers to vote more than once! Get your mom and grandma to vote Ha Ha!

how might one SIP with the Editor?
SIP is not currently available for Editor.

You can do a kind of Solo in Place by using a spare stereo group that is not assigned to any mix outputs. Solo the stereo group then to solo in place any channel just assign it to that group (I’ve assumed you want to solo in place to headphones from the mixrack) If you want to SIP to the main mix (muting everything else) just use a mute DCA group with every ch assigned and unassign what you wish to have solo’d in place.
I’m working on an interesting midi project which offers SIP and many other features when using just the editor S/W and an external Mackie/logic control. Will post info and maybe a video link here soon!

Yep – you have to press the scene up key to advance scene then recall. I think a request has been made to have auto advance as an option. I would prefer to have that. By the way – the scene up key from memory is the lower arrow key on the surface to match the scene layout on screen (Higher scenes are below so you scroll down for the next scene). It’s easy to get used to. I have a Souncraft K2-40ch and the scene buttons are the other way round but I have no problem with the iLive layout. You will not regret the upgrade!

Thats why I only store channel mutes, levels, sends and routing for any actor channel in theatre show scenes. That way you can make changes to any gain,eq,dynamics settings etc on the fly without subsequent scenes resetting everything. To do this you need to first set up a scene with the custom store settings you require (edit scene and remove input channel processing etc for the actor channels) then copy this to multiple scenes. Then at show rehearsals just hit UPDATE scene (don’t ever store all!). At the end of each rehearsal go back to scene 1 and store all and this will back up all gain/eq/processing etc. If there is a problem during a show – just change the gain – or eq etc as these settings won’t be reset with any scene recalls other than Scene 1. No need to use input safe mode at all and you still have recalled levels/mutes, sends etc. I generally don’t store any ouptut settings either for similar reasons. You can then freely eq FOH, monitors, change levels etc for differing crowd sizes and so on. Works for me!

A greater Midi implementation – in particular midi access to the channel Mix, PAFL and possibly the select keys. This would allow an external midi controller to access these buttons which would be great when only using the editor software and no surface. If the editor software could also directly interface with midi hardware attached to a laptop then the midi connections would not need to be made to the mixrack or surface which should keep the laptop wireless ability while also using a midi controller.

You could probably use LCR+ mode to do this. For the left stage pan all channels left, then use the L/R center balance control as the pan which will pan between left and center speakers. For the right stage pan all channels right and again use the L/R center as the pan – but it will be backwards: rotated to the left (L/R position) will send that channel to the right speakers, rotating to the right (center) will go to the center speakers. I haven’t tried this but think it should work as I used this mode to do a L/R Rear speaker set up. To then get the opposite speaker hang to provide fill you could have the main L/R outs feed from a matrix and send some of the left master (and or center channel) to the right and vica-versa. This should give you a left/Center/matrix mix or a right/center/matrix mix.
    Anyone care to try this?

It would be good if the midi spec could be updated to output channel MIX, PAFL, plus SEL keys and if possible to send all current settings (Fader levels, mutes, switch settings etc) when scenes are recalled?
When working with a laptop this would allow quick channel selection/pafl etc using an external midi controller device.
Also midi support for the channel encoders would be good[:)]
I have set up a custom midi device (has moving faders) as a controller for levels, mutes and scene recalls however being able to access the Mix/PAFL/Sel keys over MIDI and to have scene settings recalled would make it just awesome!

Does anyone know if the mixrack MIDI in/out can be accessed directly over the ACE network from a Laptop running suitable Midi to Lan software such as ethernetmidi?

    Cheers

iLive T112/iDR48. The more I use it the more I love it!
