You should write an addendum or some kind of downloadable reader as a side hustle. The manual is very brief about the incredible amount of details that one will encounter.

If you press the home key it shows you the last show that was loaded. It’s often meaningless because it doesn’t say when and you could have made a thousand changes since it was loaded. And there is no information about the show in the utility dialogue.

It seemingly helps to think of the channel strips as “assets” and not be too concerned about what number the strip actually is. I’m about to go through this process with a 76 “strip” session that’s very complex so I’ll have a more comprehensive response next week. What’s your deadline? and are you recording? Use Director offline so you can endlessly stare at it.

Yes. We have two segments of the 64 input show that are a departure from the main show and happen fairly quickly. A drum and drum ensemble section which takes up all 3 banks of layer D. And a “throwback” set which has a different drum kit and different instrumentation all together. That happens on the 3 banks of layer E. I also have a one for one layer for our systems tech to line check if I’m off programming something else and that is layer F. Understandably it’s just a “getting fancy” request because of course we could just push one button at at time… but since this is the newest coolest platform that will be getting all the top acts it could be just another “thing you can do”. I’m still mostly in Director as the two month tour starts in 3 weeks but I’m simulating the real thing with playback material and it was just something that I kept wishing for.

the Pan position and the Polarity really should be displayed on the overview page in the processing window.

Great! But does it work for faders other than a DCA? I’ve scoured the manual… I have seen that info pertaining to a DCA but never to anything else. I’m learning the entire system from the ground up on Director with an occasional visit to the surface. How about a rotary or some other type of value? Maybe holding reset and tapping the screen would do it? But “reset’ sounds so scary.

Like when you inherit a gig and the monitor patch is “set in stone”. They want to patch your cage 1 to 1 from their SD-rack and some kind of crosspatch (for example: a second snare mic was added. OK… I can tack that on the end of input list I inherited but now I have to ask the monitor guy to patch the second snare into input 44 on my cage when it’s number 5 on his.) isn’t very welcomed. It’s basically a session re-do. Luckily Director is Mac based and friendly. But even then you have to contend with the pre-defined stereo pairs.

Could that be achieved through MidiTimeCode? We use Pro Tools with SMPTE and MTC broadcasting various commands. The system responds to many MIDI commands….

Hmmm. Maybe never mind. Something strange was going on there. My mouse had gone into another mode and what I was describing as a future cool suggestion is already there! More reason I’m digging Director.

Actually, it seems that having a pan knob displayed in the pre-amp and trim area would be great. It’s cool “as is” because it seems like an airplane gauge or something and of course you can see the LCD display when that encoder is selected but panning is ultimately one of the most basic functions. It deserves a bigger spot.

so, what’s the latest? It’s a combination of two issues. Only congruent (pre defined) channels can be made a stereo pair and yet it seems you can’t “insert” a channel somewhere and let all of the other ones shuffle one down to place them where you want. So what do we do? Just start over on our input list ?

This is actually a good idea that even though is very caveman comes in handy allllll the time with various people line checking and patching who aren’t familiar with any of the material. Thanks.

What’s the MacOS equivalent of “right click” these days?
