I have been using the Cisco/linksys 6500 series, and i have three of them for each of my ilive rigs.
Personally i have problems with ipad in busy rooms, so i don’t use that anymore. Gave it to my wife to watch movies at home while I am working a show.
I am sort of a laptop geek/freak anyhow so i use 2 Thinkpads (one hard wired to the IDR at Monitor world) and one with a “better” wifi radio at FOH for my mix. for more “surface area” I use an attached USB monitor which gives me a second screen. I don’t use the R72 console anymore, (want to buyit?) mostly because i get lazy i suppose.

I was quite concerned/mystified about the performance degrading throuhout the show. One theory is that as the crowd fills up, people will be hitting you WAP trying to upload crap to facebook and Youtube. So at a minimum password protect your WAP and more importantly “hide” the AP in your WAP settings.

The other thing is that when i am using the dante card for recording, it seems to really keep the IDR engine busy. performance to the console/wap suffered. If i was pulling all of this traffic through a smart switch i suppose it would be worth setting Qos, but i just “home run the MACBOOK to the dante interface for recording and my Thinkpad T420s (with SSD) to the network port for IDr control. I run about 150 shows per year and this setup has been great.

FWIIW, i have played with about ever other digital console editor software. IMHO the Ilive editor is the best. I have not found any other gear that gives me the quality of sound, and capability of the Ilive series. ONe my bucket list is to make enough money to by a Dlive, but again, i may only want the stage racks. The con
sole wheras it is pretty, won’t fit in my laptop case. 🙂

i made it a littel further, but stuck with the firmware updater not “seeing ” the dante card.
tried both windows and mac pc , and get the same problem.

What is the preferred connection (thru switch or direct), what port on teh dante card to connect to (control or primary)
And what version of the updater will actually install the code?

    very frstrating

Thanks for the reply and info.
I will give that a try.
I know that dante is simple and robust, but I still get the feeling that it is too many moving parts for local live work. Must just be me, I want things simple. but I believe in the concept and will keep trying. My son loaned me a MacBook pro, and I am going to try that instead of windows. One of my issue is that protools will not initialize asio and the Dante VSC reliably. Seems like I have to go into windows and mess with audio drivers too often. if you know of a good cookbook document for this set up , that would be a great help to me.

    Thanks again

    Thanks for your reply.
in the IDR I have the clock source as port b dante.
I will check and make sure all the sample rates are set to 48K.

Do you have any recommendations for buffer size and amount, in your protools playback engine settings? (not sure this would matter).
In the DVS parameters, there are settings for ASIO, samples, encoding and latency. What do you use for these?
I am using 128 samples, 24 bit encoding and 10 ms latency.
My protools session are set for 24 BIT, WAV files and 48K.

Thanks again for your response. I would like to get this reliable soon, so that I can record all my shows.
Knowing that someone is using this in production is a big help. 🙂

I like this idea for adding value to the ilive platform through adding “features.”
It was be nice to see some investment protection coming A&H.

Although the ilive is almost 10 years old. (and due for a product refresh. )

David, thank you so much for your reply. I will give that a try.
    (the three scene thing).

As for the wireless, what i was looking for is having 2 WAPs in the “network” in case one failed. My initial thought is that this would be similar to a corp network which may have many WAP all running the same SSID. The 802.11 radios in laptops are getting smarter about “hopping” from one to another, and further, trying to keep a connection going in case teh laptop is put into suspend. (Intel 3 gen I core chipset).

And just some feedback on the touch screen. I have a 23″ all in one computer that has a touch screen. (Lenovo m90z) When I run editor on it (offline) i love the size of everything on the screen, but like you said, touch is tricky. The PAFL and Mute buttons are pretty close. :)

In fact this is one suggestion I would like to make. Have a version of editor that would exploit Win8 the new AC wireless standard, and multi touch. Thanks again for your reply. I will try that out.

And finally, does anybody have protools working correctly on a windows machine?

Just a quick update on this, which i do not understand. :)
I can playback protools , via dante to the Ilive rack, but i cannot seem tpo record from teh rack to protools via the dante connection.

Reaper is the opposite. That is, i can record in reaper from the rack (allow i seem to get that kind of jumping in levels liek you would see with clock issues. But the playback from reaper will not go to the rack.

I figure it has something to do with the routing and not a driver issue per se’. I guess i could use the info on how to set up paths from both protools and reaper .

My set up is three laptops. 1. is connected directly to the control port on the dante card in the ilive rack. That is running dante controller. I have a windows 7 thinkpad running editor 1.9 connected via a wireless AP. The third laptop is a win 7 thinkpad running protools and/or reaper, and that is connect directly to the dante primary data port. Thanks again for any and all help you might be able to provide.
