+1. an entertainment group i work for has deployed the gld in 3 theatres, and a fader crossfade would be extremely welcome here.. some things are just not possible with snapping scenes. feels weird to look back to the 01V96 and miss it…
2013/04/03 at 11:48 am #33631++votes for GLD 112 with 8 extra faders!
2013/03/27 at 10:04 pm #33594Just for the record, after reading about possibly DHCP-related boot time increase I was extra careful with the update. For me it took just a few seconds, and DHCP was disabled afterwards (as it should be). The desk was more or less unused before the upgrade, all I did was a few exercises which included loading a template session and patching a few I/Os.
All new features seem to work as announced, although I haven’t been able to test the TCP/IP improvements yet for lack of an iPad…2013/03/27 at 9:57 pm #33593That’s a very neat trick! Is this by any chance part of the template sessions? If not, it should be!
2013/03/27 at 9:54 pm #33592ahjeff, if dsnake uses 100 mbit/s ethernet, that means it uses only two pairs. which in turn means it might be possible with a single four-pair standard ethernet cable to get both the 24/12 plus extender and the “local” 8/4 extender onto the stage, with appropriate 1:2 adapters. has anybody tried this? i might give it a go the next time i get to play with a gld, which is later this month…
2013/03/27 at 12:07 pm #33587antonya, Leon BigEars, thanks for your replies. I wasn’t aware of the additional select button functions (listen and copy/paste selectively) – thanks for pointing them out.
I still think the default behaviour for first-time users should be “pop up the relevant screen automatically” for a more rewarding user experience. But I can see how advanced users would prefer the current state of affairs, so if my suggestion ever gets implemented, it should be configurable.
2013/03/27 at 1:51 am #33580Just a quick update, the show went splendidly, and I’m totally sold on this desk. While I did read the manual some days ago, I found I almost never had to refer to it while I was working (which is a good thing, because the manual sure has some way to go
Having read the forum archive, I’m also really impressed how many of the feature requests and suggestions made here in the past have already been implemented in the last firmware update, kudos!
Furthemore, I appreciate the open approach you are taking towards third-party development by providing detailed MIDI and TCP/IP implementation charts. I can’t wait to telnet into the mixer and see if I can make some faders fly
One thing I wonder: as great as this desk is, at that price point, how long can you guarantee replacement parts or spare console availability?
