I will be getting an external USB SSD on Monday, I’ll let you know how it works as a SQ-drive when I have had the time to test it a few times.

Ah yes, LF vibration didn’t occur to me. For those situations, solid state will indeed be a better choice.

I thought the Dante card only allows 32 channels when running @96k? If you want to record 64 channels over Dante, you need to SRC down to 48kHz, right?

And regarding the harddisk, isn’t SSD a bit overkill? After all, the databus is only USB 2.0 and not 3.0 – surely a fast 7200 rpm mechanical hard drive will be enough?

thanks, but there are very few items on that list that state multitrack compatibility with the SQ. What’s worse, all ”Tested by A&H” lines in that sheet are timestamped to a date preceding the release of the SQ-series. Guess I will have to contact A&H directly.

I would appreciate the SQ desks getting their own compatibility sheet, as multitracked 96k recording requires much more grunt and performance.

I need to invest in a external USB 2.0 HDD for multitrack recording with my SQ-5.

Do you reckon this one would work well?

Just to necro this thread with my 2 cents

I bought an SQ-5 and am using it as a fully recallable line mixer for all my synths, sampler etc. As for interconnecting with the SQ-5..

First off, many synths etc these days are equipped with ”imoedance balanced” TRS 1/4” outputs. You can plug these directly into the SQ with the appropriate cables (TRS into XLR male for mic inputs, or TRS-TRS for the ST1 / ST2 inputs).

If your synth/sound source does not have impedance balanced outputs, You have at least three options on how to interconnect to the SQ:
    – DI boxes
    – Line level shifters
    – Using special TS-XLR cables such as these:
Sound On Sound = Pseudo-balanced cables

DI boxes are the most commonly used solution, but can be very expensive if you need several channels. Multichannel line level shifters can be a more cost effective solution for large channel counts.

As stated above, only DI boxes will protect your equipment if you accidentally engage 48V phantom on an input. Thankfully however, the SQ series UI makes accidental phantom powering quite hard..

I’m hoping it’ll be worth the wait. Would be nice to know what’s coming though.

I do know that some sort of new routing features will be added in 1.3. Would be very nice to get some DEEP plugin love as well. Some new EQ or compressor models would be great!

I’m confused.. As far as I know, you cannot multitrack record via the USB-B socket? As in, SQ-drive is the USB port at the front of the console, not at the real. The rear port is only used for connecting to a computer, right?
