What firmware you are using? I had similar problems in 1.3 but after downgrading to 1.2, sq drive recording has worked fine. I did reformat the drive under 1.2 fwiw

Surgical EQ is very useful for vocals IME. I am getting into the habit of sending my vox to a hus just to get flexible subtractive EQ, that digiQ GEQ could be a great tool.. But without demos I cannot buy.

    Further info to this problem:

I downgraded the firmware to 1.2.2, reformatted the SSD via the SQ 1.2.2 and now the glitches are gone!

So it would seem the issue is caused by 1.3 OS somehow.. Either the formatting function in 1.3 causes problems (docs state it was changed somehow? something about extended file system support?) or then something else in 1.3 causing unsatisfactory mtk recording performance..

Just a heads up for anyone else who might run into the same issue:

If I try to multitrack record to my SQdrive under 1.3, I get consistent glitches in the recorded tracks, occurring about once every minute. Rolling back to 1.2.2 fixes the problem.

    Something’s messed up in 1.3?

I finally had time to test multitrack recording with a freshly formatted Sandisk Extreme SSD (500GB). Recording 16 tracks at a time. I consistently get errors in the recording, sounds garbled, like what one gets when recording with a DAW if CPU runs out or buffer is too small. The errors last from a second to several seconds, and occur roughly every minute or so.

SQ5 firmware is 1.3. SSD is freshly formatted with the SQ5 under OS 1.3.

One thing to note is that the number of errors displayed by the SQ5 is constantly zero, even during these errors 😉 Seems like your error-detection system is flawed, hmm?

For those of you who have already used these plugins in another console (GLD or DLive), could you describe your experiences with them a little?

I have tried to look for reviews on these plugs and there doesn’t seem to be anything about them online.

Listening to the demos gives me a feeling that the quality of processing here is somewhere along the lines of UAD mk I plugins, like LA2A mk I and 1176 mk I… Would this sound like a fair assesment to you?

Cannot really say I hear a lot of difference between the different algos upon casual listening. And no demos of how the GEQs sound??

Thanks for your thoughts. Not sure if the USB Ethernet adapter works with iOS unless automatic DHCP is involved, but I’ll give it a go.

Thanks for the update! The added tie in section for the I/O is appreciated.

However, I wish there was a way to demo the new DEEP plugins somehow before buying.. I have a bad habit of buying plugins I never end up using, demos would help :p

I thoguht buying a licence for the plugins is always tied in to the physical hardware? As in, a licence unlocks one serial number which can be used for unlocking said DSP functionality in a specific SQ instance. Therefore it would be logical to assume that as the plugins cannot be deauthorized after authorizing once, they are forever tied to specific mixer, and this is why one must specify which SQ model they are buying the licence for?

I think the FX parameters are only adjustable from the FX button.

As for the fx returns, I think you need to assign them to a mix if you want to access a full channelstrip with the SEL button? Correct me if I’m wrong, I’m new to the SQ 😉

I have only made preliminary tests with my new SQ5. Propellerheads Reason has a very small footprint, and is generally a well optimized DAW, so I have tested multirack recording with it two times now. Flawless recording performance on both tests so far.

I also seem to recall reading about a new(ish) multitrack recording application on gearslutz, it seemed perfect for the job, it wasn’t a DAW at all, just a multitrack recorder, but sorry to say I forgot the name of the software..

What parameters did you use in disk utility to format the drive, if I may ask?
