Fader bank Presets would be useful. For emptying there could be an โ€žempty bankโ€ preset.

    Two things.

This is a “feature request forum”, not “I’m looking for a workaround” forum.

Secondly, trim isn’t available on the output buses and that’s where I’d benefit from relative ganging the most.

Relative fader linking is available in other consoles and DAWs. It’s the feature that once one gets accustomed to, it becomes missing on all tools that don’t have it.

    Let me rephrase once again:

    – for scenes with filters, the new mix configuration items should default to “block”
    – for scenes without filters the filters are not set at all, there’s no filter icon next to the scene name, so no change here. Imagine it as default to “allow”

There will be no confusion at all for unexperienced users. Quite the contrary.

I would also like to stress that I am not suggesting any changes to scenes without filters.

Basic users can actually burn themselves as well, not knowing that a factory scene “Fader Layout” might actually reset some unwanted mix settings if any changes were made to the mix rack configuration beforehand. I can imagine a situation like this happening.

    Steffen R,
I deliberately used this title and I chose the wording because I see it this way. Filters are meant to be used to allow certain elements to be recalled on a scene by scene basis, while blocking everything else, regardless of the mixer configuration. Allen heath themselves encourage using this, for example together with Soft Key “SEL, PAFL, MIX, SCENE” which can recall previously filtered scenes with fader layouts only. For a monitor engineer last minute guest musician that would require assigning an additional aux in the mixrack configuration would cause all those “layout only” scenes to completely reset the guest musician mix. Who would want that?

Would you be so kind to present at least one scenario where even the least advanced user would set filters in individual scenes and where she/he would expect some later changes in the mixrack configuration to be effectively reset upon recalling those previously stored scenes?

The logic that sits behind filters is to make a recall focused on selected things. Future changes in the mixer configuration are currently causing resetting those newly added items (fader banks in larger control surfaces, new buses, stereo/mono channels, dx extenders preamp) bringing their settings to their default state when recalling filtered scenes. If it isn’t a huge problem for the majority of users reaching for scene filters, then I would be clearly missing something. If I do, please explain what.

I burned myself in a few situations:

    1. Brought my show to a bigger console, assigned some additional fader layouts. It’s show time. I fire my first “guitar solo” scene which brings guitar 2dB louder and to the center of panorama. New fader layouts disappear.

    2. Connected DX168 to accommodate some additional input channels. That for some reason caused the channels using DX to set preamp settings to “allow” in scene filters.

    3. Created an additional Matrix for a balcony in a church. The new Matrix is set to “Allow” in all my scenes, so first scene fired resets the Matrix.

    Please A&H, reconsider! ๐Ÿ™‚

Using an aux or a group has been another workaround on a couple of occasions.
Limiting talkback mic is essential in protecting healthy talkback level for musicians and providing communication comfort in IEM workflows.
    There’s nothing funny about it.
Behringer Wing has it resolved in a simple but effective way – regular channel is being used as a talkback source.

That doesn’t bother me at all. Small price to pay in rare scenarios over a huge workflow improvement, which by the way has been available for over 10 years on Avid / Digidesign mixing desks.

I am just after doing an orchestral mix on dLive and one thing that would make my life much easier in this case would definitely be a “group spill”.
Basically for every audio group I used I had to create a sister DCA group just to use spill.

My current workaround is to use FX 16 return as an input to Talkback bus (that’s surprisingly possible). I insert FX 16 on one of the input channels.

I think you wanted to link this video:

But this isn’t what I meant.
Currently we have a limited number of Soft Keys available on the surface.
My suggestion is the ability to expand the MIDI protocol, so external MIDI controllers with buttons/pads could be used as Soft Keys. It is currently partially possible, because MIDI allows to recall scenes, mute channels, etc. – but it’s not possible, for example, to assign MIX function (DCA spill, AUX send on faders) to a MIDI command.

    So again:

MIDI Soft Keys allowing external MIDI controllers to be used as additional Soft Keys would be a great addition. ๐Ÿ™‚

I have submitted a ticket regarding this but they said this, even if considered, would not be on top the list of the things to do.
I’m admiring how this is done in Waves LV1 – recall scope stays the way it was set, regardless the changes in the mix configuration, like on Avid Venue desks.

Elgato looks very complex to setup, requires a running computer with Elgato software and it’s limited to dLive MIDI protocol.

Soft Keys are far more powerful and I am hoping more people would support this suggestion.
