    Hmmm 18.

18 is the limit for Qu-Drive recording, while USB B goes to 32. You can only use one at a time.

But, if you’re set up for Qu-Drive, do you still get 18 outputs on the USB B port? I’ve never tried this, so I don’t know.

So the question is, is you USB set to use SQ-Drive or USB B?

Just forget for a minute that the FX are built in, and think of the effects returns in the same way as any other input to the desk.

Sending to any mix is done in exactly the same way as you’ve done it for the vocal channels.

In this case, once you have the desired effect working in the main mix, press the blue button on the right for Mix 4, and adjust the amount of reverb going to if with the fader on the FX Return 1 channel. (If you’re not starting from the default state then you may need to double check that the FX Return still assigned for Mix 4, and set to Post Fade.)

In the Bhreinger, I can select vocal channel 1, and turn it up in the effects channel. Then, I can switch to the effects channel, and tell it to get so loud in the house, and then also get so loud in the sub-mix as well.

This is exactly the same way as every desk I’ve ever used – though the nameing and position of controls may change of course.

Just though of something…..you mentioned pulpit mic, most of those require phantom power to operate.
Is the scene that turns on/up the pulpit mic also turning the phantom power in that mic channel preamp?
There is a delay with some mics turning on after the phantom power is applied.

Sounds like the answer to me.

I’d recommend putting a spare channel or two somewhere, or at least leaving gaps for them.

I got caught out on one of my early gigs with an SQ when a last minute special guest appeared, and I’d no way of quickly getting their channels into layers that made sense.

Remember that each effects unit can have lots of things sent to it, but only has the one (stereo) output.
So if you use the same reverb unit for two things, that unit’s return will have both those things reverb mixed together in it.
So to get them separated, you’d need to use two reverb units.

You can process 48 though, so should have plenty spare to do alternative eq for mins.

If you know how it’s set up, it’s not going to change by itself and it’s only one or two button presses away to check. Or when you’re setting up you could just hit the PAFL button and move the fader to see/hear what happens.

Probably, if it’s an input, then it’s Pre-Fade, but if it’s an output, it’s After-Fade. But This can be changed in the Audio Setup, so I can’t be sure how it’s set for you.

See page 62 of the manual. It’s the box in the lower left of the screen shot. Unless you have a specific reason for wanting to change it, I’d suggest that the default settings (shown in that image) are what you should use.

Also Kieth’s done a short video

With regards to your lack of level to OBS, I notice that Aux 2 is assigned to DCA 3. Is this DCA set to 0bB?

    I’ve got an AX11 here.

I believe if you switch to “A” (the physical switches on the opposite side to the XLRs) that forces it to use the internal mic. This uses AGC and the level pots do not work in this mode.

To use the XLR inputs you must be switched to “M”. The other switches should be set to “Line” for an input from the desk and adjust the two pots as needed.

Why are you only using one input? Is there anything in the other one?

    No completely, no 🙂

But you don’t need to worry about switching from Main LR to the group to make adjustments to levels. The level for main & any groups will always be the same – if you swap from one to another, you’ll not see the fader move.

So once you’ve set up a group with any eq, comp etc that you want, you can just mix as “normal” with Maim LR selected.

The SQ itself always runs at 96kHz and can record at this rate to USB B (32 channels) or SQ Drive (16 Channel)*.

The Slink port can convert incoming signals from 48kHz to 96kHz, and outgoing from 96kHz to 48kHz, but all boxes you use must run at the same rate – you can’t mix sample rates on one port.

If the 48kHz initial rate is acceptable to you, the an AR2412 with an AR84 is probably the very cheapest way of getting 32 remote inputs.

    * SQ Drive can do up to 32 channels, but at only 48kHz

It has no output controls that your operating system can control. It has them built into the desk though, and I assume Reaper has input level controls too.

    So should be no problem.

    This is normal.

The metering the DAW uses 0dB as a maximum, while the desk has 0dB at -18 of the max to allow plenty of headroom.

If you clip on the DAW, you can go back and do it again – if you clip while live in a PA while recording, you’re stick with it.

Not something I’d normally recommend, but how about adding something like this – fed from the Alt Out, and then calibrated as you require?
