We have it up and running ok, using two separate stereo channels for the desk.
(we use separate worship group and lectern/speaker feeds as the noise cancellation is very useful for the speakers, but definitely not for the music). It works nicely as long as you add about 20 – 24dB gain to the input on OBS.
We had some issues with getting an output back to our desk for video inserts etc. but found the Audio Monitor plugin very useful for this purposes.
Using the USB input helped cut down on the cabling (originally we used a Focusrite interface).2021/06/14 at 10:51 am #101886LOL – a bit like most software development.
Suppose I shouldn’t be cheeky but has been a fact as long as I’ve worked in software.Use the Opto for the first time with all our lecturn (and radio mic) speakers at the service yesterday – seemed to work nicely.
Going to try it out on the soloists in the music group next.2021/06/12 at 1:52 pm #101862Just wondering if these materials became available.
Thanks – John
2021/06/03 at 10:07 am #101718Going to be an upgrade party then on Saturday with Windows 21H1 out and OBS 27.0 just released too 🙂
2021/05/27 at 7:30 am #101558Thanks for the topic.
Had noticed the same when pulling the USB into OBS as well and thought it was around 20db.Would also second normalising using the Audicity Effect function – its my first action when I take the recording off our Qu-16 in the other church.
2021/05/18 at 12:59 pm #101382Keith,
Thanks for the detailed reply – hopefully the new set of sticks will work a bit better.
The interesting thing I would say though is that the SQ seems to be a bit more tolerant than the Qu (based on our two consoles).2021/05/18 at 8:44 am #101378@keith – wondering are you able to help here?
So – I tried formatting the drive using Ubuntu and on the SQ7.
Neither solution worked, so in the end I bought some new Kingston Data travellers, formatted them on the Qu and they are working fine for the moment. It looks to me like the firmware in the Qu may just a bit intolerant on variations on the drive.
I noticed the last Firmware update had fixes for USB Enumeration and wonder is there a bit more that could be done to improve its robustness. Also – can anything be done about the anti-windows troll or is that just a fact of life?
2021/05/18 at 8:36 am #101377Yes – Windows like every other OS has its issues and some great advantages too.
2021/05/06 at 4:53 pm #101148Hmm – fraid I’ve been on win-10 for ages and up to now haven’t had issues.
I do have an Ubuntu desktop beside me as well so might give that a whirl – I think you can FAT32 format on it (with a bit of persuasion)We use twilio.com to serve an MP3 file out.
This is quite a sophisticate call handling service, but its become popular for churches in the UK since the pandemic started to serve out services.
We just do a simple play script that is updated each Sunday.2021/05/06 at 3:18 pm #101146Thanks for the fast reply.
Looking at your “alternatively”….
I’ve tried all sorts of things on my PC (Win-10) including Diskpart to clean them and re-create the partitions etc. etc.
Have come to a similar conclusion to you.Back-story – I use them to record our morning service for later push up onto a telephone service (yes – ancient tech but we have a group in church that appreciates this and still use landlines 🙂 ).
I used to give the operator a bag of sticks to save trips, but he recently reported to me that only a few sticks were working.2021/04/08 at 9:12 am #100506Also worth checking the USB cable/sockets at either end – I’ve had recent issues with a USB Drive dropping out on PC that turned out to be a very dodgy cable.
2021/02/05 at 3:10 pm #98639Keith thanks for the detailed reply – always appreciate the clarity you bring to the conversation.
For info – I find the matrix channel very useful for
– Fill speakers (where I need to suppress specific group buses that go the MAIN (e.g. Radio mics)
– External house feeds (creche, outside hall) for similar reasons
– EQ for Bass bins avoiding the use of a crossover unit.Have been able to get by with 3 but would be a real boon as stated to have extra.
That said – its is a superbly configured desk at that price point.
It has very easily swapped over to livestream use in recent times and I see no reason when the congregation returns that it won’t be able to support both use cases simultaneously.Tx for the tip on the CH to All Mix – that helps and lot and will do the job nicely.

2021/02/05 at 8:53 am #98632Agreed Nicola – but it would be nice if you or Keith would come back with a response if this is feasible or not.
I.e. if it is locked into the hardware then its probably not possible.I would find the addition of at least 3 more Matrix channels very very useful – I can think of several applications in our current worship group setup that would benefit from this.
One other feature related to this would be an easier way of adjusting the input levels to the matrix.
Even if some of these could be pulled out to the programmable knobs if not the actual faders (which is probably a request too far).+1 on the other comments that for its price, the SQ series is a very very well equipped desk.
2020/12/25 at 10:37 am #97635+1 for setting date/time on recordings.
2020/02/27 at 10:47 am #89885I’m using the Matrix output for a set of fill speakers – taking feeds from the groups rather than the main.
This allows me to exclude certain radio mics (in a group) where the speaker is prone to speak in front of the fill speakers. Its not ideal but does means the worship group/instrument feeds go to the fills.
