+1. Aren’t Dugan automixers usually deployed post-fader as well?
2016/01/10 at 3:55 am #53191Touchscreen control of mute and fader on the input processing would make the Editor a lot nicer too, since those are about the only two controls that you can’t access in Editor for any strip not assigned to the surface (Processing touchscreen is available for any channel in Editor, not just those assigned to a strip).
One place where mutes and faders are available for *all* inputs, DCAs and mixes is the iPad app, which may not always be available but definitely has its uses.
2015/11/10 at 3:41 am #51985Hi, John.
No console in my house but I do have the editor software on my computer… I loaded your show and can confirm Mike and Chris’ diagnosis.
As they said, the button to lock/unlock the DCA fader is in the bottom right corner of the “routing” tab when you select the DCA. Definitely possible to fat-finger it when going for something on the bottom of the touchscreen like the help menu or the shortcut to USB recording if you use that.
Edit to add on the zero dB detent: A&H and DiGiCo are part of the same parent company so patents or other intellectual property wouldn’t be an issue. But they do seem to have their own separate approaches on the UI side of things and may well want to continue in that fashion to differentiate the two brands.
2015/10/14 at 8:02 pm #51347In my church’s mono setup we have the mains on the desk set up as LR+Msum and then send the Msum output to a speaker processor that handles the cross-over between the top cluster and the sub. The major downside of that approach is that the LR+Msum configuration ties up four mix outputs despite the fact that we only use one of them.
If I’d ever get tight on mix outputs I would drop the Msum output and sum L and R together, either in the processor or amp if one of those can be used to safely sum them, or with a summing box (not just a wye tying L and R directly to each other… Rane has a good white paper with schematics for summing circuits at https://www.rane.com/note109.html ).
It’s possible to dispense with the main outs entirely and just run your mono main (and sub if you want) on one or two post-fade aux mixes but that might get a little confusing to train volunteers on.
2015/09/17 at 9:21 pm #50575There were a lot of initial complaints about that when firmware 1.5 came out so A&H changed some of those time constants in the automixer for version 1.51.
Do you have the latest firmware version on your desk?
2015/09/03 at 7:19 pm #50241If you have an FX engine free, there’s also the possibility of inserting a multi-band comp on the bass input and making the direct out point either post-insert or post-PEQ (both of which are before the compressor). You can turn the 3-band into a regular comp by dragging the center band out to the edges (20 Hz- 18k) so that it’s the only band that’s active, basically. Note that I’ve never done this, I’m just suggesting it as a possibility.
I imagine you’d likely want to split the bass into two inputs, one routed to Aviom and the other to FOH (I usually do this when bass players are on in-ears anyway).
2015/08/09 at 1:43 pm #49727If you disconnect and re-connect, do they sync up?
2015/07/29 at 6:00 pm #49614Have a look at Nicola’s response in this thread:
Apparently, any fast layer 2 (i.e., non-managed) switch should work. Might want to try it out with patch cables before spending a bunch of time pulling stuff through walls though.
2015/05/01 at 12:41 am #47686I couldn’t remember where I saw that so I had to ask the Google…
On further review, the limit appears to be 16 devices rather than 10. The only place I could dig it up with Google was in the News section of the A&H site on the announcements about the release of GLD OneMix and GLD Editor.
for example:
ALLEN & HEATH LAUNCHES ONEMIX PERSONAL MONITORING IPAD APP FOR GLD
2015/04/30 at 7:15 pm #47678I’ve never done it personally, but with the Dante card installed the GLD should be able to either send or receive all inputs over Dante to do a digital split.
The main problem with this approach, compared to a traditional analog split, is that one console controls the preamp gain, but any adjustments to the preamp will affect level at both consoles. This could be alleviated to some extent by putting digital trim, rather than preamp gain, on the surface of the “master” console once preamp gains are set.
2015/04/30 at 6:44 pm #47676I believe the limit is 10 connected devices–that includes all instances of OneMix, GLD Remote, and GLD editor (the PC app).
2015/04/21 at 4:12 pm #47242Isn’t a downward expander just a gate with variable attenuation, rather than on/off? I’m pretty sure the GLD has one of these on every channel.
Mark, an expander works a little bit more like a compressor–gain reduction depends on how far the signal is below threshold–while a gate applies the same gain reduction for all signals below the threshold. At least that’s how I understand them.
What the GLD currently has (v1.5) is a gate, not an expander.
Dave, if you have the time, the Editor software emulates the layout of the surface and touch screen menus quite well, so it’s worth downloading and playing around with.
2015/03/27 at 12:14 am #46262John, select the aux and go to the “routing” tab on the touchscreen. There are a number of pick-off points you can select between in the dropdown box in the upper right corner–everywhere from post-preamp to post-delay. Signal flow is preamp-trim-gate-EQ-compressor-delay, so it’s possible to do a post-EQ feed with no compression if that’s what you want.
For a given aux, you can select pre/post fade channel by channel, but the pre-fade pickoff point is the same for everything going into that aux.
2015/03/10 at 4:10 am #45862What you did will safe the preamp gain and phantom power settings only. To safe the whole channel, you need to press the ‘safe’ button on the surface together with the channel mix button.
Note that your channels will still not be *show*-safe…
2015/03/01 at 8:11 pm #45659There’s a cooling fan in the AR2412 which I have to imagine would suck a lot of dirt into the unit if it were left running 24/7, especially under a stage.
