Never mind. I could get the groups to work at all. Aux worked as advertised.

Now the dumb question. Why use an aux instead of a group?

    Example for us.
    Keyboard left input 7
    Keyboard right input 8

Pan input 7 all the way to the left
Pan input 8 all the way to the right

We also use ganging so we only have to move a single fader for both left and right. To do this, we hide the above 2 inputs on an unused layer. Then drop in one of the 2 inputs on our main layer.

    Hope that makes sense.

I know this is a 5 year old thread, but I’m still not certain the best route to go (yes still a newbie).
    1) I have an XLR run from the board to the camera and setup an AUX.
    2) Hindsight that is not what I need, I need a feed that matches that of the main mix.
    3) I have done a little reading and a watched a few videos and it looks like I want to use a matrix.
    4) I’m not in front of my board, so do I just assign a main mix to a matrix?
    5) Do I send the matrix through one of the outputs (as I usually do with an aux or LR)?

We use 2 8×4’s which should give what you need. Note, we are using a gld112

One our band members donated money to specifically purchase a Dante card (church services with generally ~20 channels). The band had great intentions of making recordings and post mixing. In the long run (past 5 years), that has happened on just a few occasions. We use Reaper as our recording and playback software. I have found sending the recordings back through our GLD useful for training techs and for me personally to practice my mixing techniques. I do not have any good post processing software and audacity is not the route to go. Reaper creates very large wav files. A 1 hour church service is difficult to transfer to a post processing computer. Maybe some of you have 100 GB jump drives, but not me. I had to use an external hard drive.

As Jeff points out, USB recordings are pretty sterile and lack room acoustics. This even holds true when you take all the individual channels through Dante. I have to add an ‘room’ mic to help bring room acoustics. That helps, but by no means reproduces the sound inside a room.

I believe the number of outputs you can address is dependent on the AR boxes you have in your system.

I have to ask, why are you using stereo mixes for for monitors?

I have a similar problem going into the RCA inputs. My source is a Mackie Mixer, so I don’t think its a pro/consumer audio thing.

I don’t think dante ($$$) is necessary. You could avoid using the USB and run a mono AUX feed directly to your PC. You can record using audacity. I do this on occasions. You might need an inexpensive interface box to go between aux and the PC. I’m not a huge proponent of beheringer but …

I don’t know how to do it with gld, but I convert my tracks to mono using audacity. Then I save it as an mp3 file.

Just to make sure I understand. You have a fader for each vocalists and then an AUX output for FOH and one for Recording – correct? If that is the case, you should assign each of the vocalist channels to both the FOH and Recording AUX outputs. As litti says above, both FOH and Recording AUX must be post fader. Now you shouldn’t have to touch the faders for FOH or Recording and just adjust the faders of the vocalists. To be able to use the individual vocalist faders requires you to have a good gain structure.

I can’t help with the pops, but if you have an extra DCA available make a mute group for all you ‘parts’. Might help.

Poor mans solution can be found here:

You could then go through through the headphone jack.

You might be able to use an M-Audio interface that can take in an XLR connection (we use an AUX out). It does have USB out which might help. It also has RCA outs, but I could not find an RCA to mic cable.

    Hi Rick,

Try formatting the stick to Fat32. I have also read some off brands may not work very well. Kingston appears to be reliable. That is what we use.
