Well, if Soundcraft does not have a forum at all, maybe the activity here is not that bad. Keep in mind, though, that this forum is still young, compared to others.
I don’t want to badmouth A&H, especially not in their own forum. I understand, and respect, their way of working. You will have to form your own opinion on this. Some vendors are better in some areas, others in other areas. Try to pick the cherries, and be content with the rest. That’s life.

That said, I’m very torn what mixer to get myself.

In the youtube interview at Musikmesse, the one in German, the A&H representative says that windows drivers will come later (in the last minute of the video). Otoh, other representatives give different information.

One way could be facilitate navigating the file system of the drive using the touchscreen or the qu-pad.

Well, let’s be fair. The QU-16 is finished as soon as it provides all the features listed in the sales pitch. A&H has shown that they have released bug fixes when needed, and they have released featured that were promised.

I think we who are here in order to figure out whether to buy this unit or not will have to reside to what we know. To what the unit delivers now. If you want you can also weigh in the promises from A&H of it being “future proof”, but I don’t think it is fair of us to demand more than what’s in the specification. We can’t really complain about features not promised being absent.

However, there are cheaper units out there as well as more expensive ones. If A&H wants to let us glimpse what is behind the curtain in order to make the scale tip over to their favour is totally their decision. We can get angry about that, but there is no need to post that anger here because that will only make A&H spend resources here instead of where _we_ really want them to be spent (on groups, naming, M$ compatibility etc). 🙂

Ahh, yes! I confused the 1.12 release with the 1.2. 🙂

But the names are not on the desk, yet?

    Good news nevertheless.

Reading the “New features” document for FW 1.2 channel naming is added to the QU-pad. I wonder how it is mapped to the mixer, though. Maybe it isn’t.

I read on the A&H homepage somewhere and I think that describes the situation: “We are not a software company”
In order to stay in the game I think they need to learn from them. They would gain a lot from creating an eco-system around their products.

The hardware platform seems great, but I don’t dare to buy one if there is no support and commitment to the product after the sale.

I will buy a mixer before Christmas, but I still don’t know which one.

Being in the same business as GR-PDX, I agree with the statement that there should be some kind of roadmap stating at least what features one could expect from a product this, from a hobbyist point of view, expensive.

I think A&H could use and being more visible this forum more in order to:
    * Clear out questions and stop rumours
    * Make a a person interested in buying this mixer some confidence that it’s a good buy and that the features will come. Eventually.
    * Show that there marketing department is interested how people want to use their device.

I’m fully aware that there is a cost involved for that but a couple of extra sales generated by a welcoming community would fix that. Look at the forum for another mixer company building slightly lighter blue mixers. I’d feel much more secure spending money there, but I really like the idea of this mixer.

Or maybe it’s just because I’m a noob that don’t know enough that gives me this feeling.

Let me get this straight… (Never used a digital mixer, but I think about buying one)

I set up for the band, all gains, effects, levels etc and save it as a scene.
Next gig I can open up the scene and I will have it all as it was last time. But I have to remember myself what instrument I had on each channel???

Also when I leave the desk to use the iPad I need to remember what Instrument I connected to each channel?

    Is that really correct?

    @eotsskleet
Yes, I know. If I, as an amateur, spending that amount of money is not that interesting if I can’t cover all my needs. I can get all the features/quality I _need_ for half the money buying another brand. But then comes the features/quality I _want_… 🙂

This is a deciding issue for me too. It does not have to happen right now, but I don’t think I’ll buy one if I don’t get a statement that it will come.

The Qu-drive is a winning argument for me, but if it is not supposed to become M$ compatible I think I’ll have to put my money elsewhere. Too bad on such a fine product!

So: Will it be implemented or not?
