If the SQ hardware can handle the processing load, I’d be willing to pay for the extra DEEP plugins.

When I evaluated an SQ-5 for my studio I used a custom MaxForLive device to translate tempo information from Ableton Live into the specific note number assigned to the SoftKey for Global Tap.

When I evaluated an SQ for my studio, I had success driving Studio One 4.6 with the latest DAW Control by adding the DAW Control ports as “Mackie Control” devices.

However, you have to group them together in the “Control Surface Placement” dialog box (as shown in the attached screenshot) to be able to control a full bank of 16 channels on the SQ control surface.
Also, the “Touch” automation mode does not work properly with the SQ because the SQ fafers aren’t touch sensitive.

    Hope this helps!

Here’s an image of the translations themselves.

I’ve been evaluating an SQ for my personal studio (my workflow “straddles the fence” between studio and live) and have been able to control functions in a DAW from the SoftKeys using Bome’s MIDI Translator to convert a Program Change or Note On message into a keystroke.

While this does not give full DAW control capability from the SQ, it opens up the capability to control many more functions from the SoftKeys/SoftRotaries on the console.

In this file, I’m controlling showing and hiding the three main windows (Edit/Mix/Browse) as well as toggling automation touch/read mode.

Interesting you mention that. I’ve been interested in the SQ since it launched as a console for my electronic music studio in a “hybrid” (live/studio) role.

What do you mean by “split ops?”

The use case I envision is both tracking hardware synths to a DAW and then editing/adding software synth parts on top as well as live streams from said hardware.

(For livestreams, I’d only be sending L-R to the DAW.)

Would I run into any issues there?

Keith told me in an email: “We are looking into market demand for an SQ MADI card at present, but there is nothing planned for production at this time.”

I’m with you, having access to a UAD Live Rack with the SQ’s power and flexibility would be a great combination for both studio/live streaming and live event use.

I don’t see a MIDI Protocol document on the SQ documentation page. Is that coming in a future firmware release?

I’m considering a Qu for my electronic music studio, and would an outboard analog processor like the Elektron Analog Heat (https://www.elektron.se/products/analog-heat/) be interfaced the same way with a Ebtech HE-2-XLR or “reverse DI” through the mix outputs and return it to a channel?

For what it’s worth (I’m seriously considering a Qu-16 or 24 for my electronic music studio) I contacted A&H through their Facebook page, and this was their reply:

“We continue to collect and consider feature requests for the Qu, and periodically review the firmware to decide what can be added or changed. Though there has not been a full firmware release for 6 months, we are still working on the range, just not in such obvious ways. (So no, it is not end-of-lifed!) Thanks, Keith.”
