    Dylan:

Thanks for posting the video. I’ve been thinking about doing something similar for our small church and our SQ5. We are live-streaming services now with the pandemic, and plan to continue to do so when this is all over. I’d love to be able to route Dante audio from the SQ5 to a second computer so that we can have a separate mix with nice effects, etc, and with minimal latency. I’m also interested in doing so for some additional processing of our live mix, so your post and video are certainly timely.

    Cheers!

We just purchased the Dynamics pack that includes the De-esser plugin. I was disappointed to find that this didn’t offer two mono De-essers per FX rack slot, unlike the X32 (and even the X-Air mixers). I was also disappointed to realize that these plugins can’t be used as Deep plugins, though that’s my fault for not reading the Plugin purchase page for the SQ5 a bit more carefully (which does highlight which plugins are FX Rack and Deep). Regardless, being able to use plugins like the De-esser in dual mono mode would significantly enhance the functionality of these FX Rack plugins.

You could purchase an AES3 to Dante converter like the Dante AVIO AES3 and then connect this to the SQ via a Dante card. Each AVIO AES3 (roughly $150 USD) carries a stereo input and output, so you will get a stereo feed from your keyboard. You would need to convert from SPDIF to AES3 at the keyboard itself, but there are plenty of methods for that.

    Sascha:

Yes, I know that de-essers have not been produced yet, but I’m hoping that one will be made available, either as a deep plugin or as an insert effect in a future firmware upgrade. I used to use them all the time on the GLD-112 that we used to use at my old church and it came in handy many times. In that case, the de-esser was used as an insert effect on the input channel for the pastor, etc. So, this allowed me to still use the channel compressor to control the dynamics of the channel as usual while being able to tame sibilance. A future de-esser for the SQ would be very helpful, but if it is a deep plugin, I wonder how one would be able to use it for controlling sibilance and still be able to apply standard channel compression. Just curious about how A&H plan to implement a de-esser (assuming this will eventually happen, which would be great).

    Thanks!

It’s great to see these plugins available now, and am considering purchasing the upgrades for our church’s SQ5. One plugin that would be very useful to us would be a de-esser. However, as I understand it (likely wrong), the de-esser would substitute the stock channel compressor section. We would like to be able to use a de-esser to eliminate the sibilance, as well as a standard compressor to control the dynamics of different speakers. Would this be possible if there was a de-esser dynamics plugin?

I’ve used both Audacity and Reaper, recording to an older i7 MacBook Pro without any problems.

Thanks for all the suggestions! I ended up setting up a Subwoofer aux (aux 8) after converting it to mono and then set this to post-fade. As before, I simply assign different input channels (e.g. bass, kick, iPod, keys) to Aux 8 as usual, then run this to the speaker processor (DCX2496) via the stage snake returns. On Fader Layer A, I have the Aux 8 send fader placed next to the main fader so it is a simple matter of adjusting the subwoofer level by that aux control. Ideally, it would be great if it was possible to gang the LR fader to the subwoofer aux send fader. Alternatively, it would be nice if you could assign a DCA to the main LR fader. Either would work to simplify this setup.
