I think best way to record is to pick up directly from the input sockets, because direct outs are after hpf, if my memory serves me right!

Yes, works in Wine, out of the box, think I even tried to connect it to the console and it worked also.

Would be nice if I could get a hold of a Dante card for cheaper money, it’s still over 1000 euros… 🙁

SQ and dLive are able to control the gain and phantom, so maybe it could be implemented into GLD too via some future update?

Hm, is anybody using the Mixing Statio GLD Pro on Android device? I see it looks almost the same as the X32 app from the same developer, the Onemix is a bit cumbersome to use…

QU without the stagebox has “one on one” patching, that means that input one is on channel one, and you cannot duplicate inputs.

Also, no scribble scripts, so a bit clumsy to work around in layers and where is what.
USB pen drive support is horrible.
Other than that it has more or less the same features like the GLD, the reverbs and delays, not sure about the multiband or 16T compressor per channel, and it sounds okay, but it’s an entry level console, from build quality to features, it has that “custom” layer, where on GLD you can basically set the layers any way you want, inputs, outputs, fx returns, vca’s, just drag and drop.

SQ – I did not have too many experience with it to judge it – how it sounds, all I can say, in the earlier versions of the firmware, it was a bit slow to run around, I think they implemented the “follow” option, that is – when you select a channel and – for instance want to adjust the eq, the screen will automatically switch to the eq window, if you start to rotate the compressor’s knob, it will go into compressor window, etc etc…

There is a lot of hype regarding the 96k operation, and seems like everybody is swallowing it.
Bear in mind that all the “deep” stuff going on in the “rack” of the SQ (reverbs, delays, multibands, dyn eq, etc) are as old as iLive, and are present on the GLD also, so I’m guessing everything is downsampled to 48k anyways 😀 😀

SQ series is pretty compact, can be expanded to 48 channels, has some nice things from the dLive, and all the usual stuff from iLive/GLD deep processing, and I see some bands tour with it also. Maybe someone could chime on the sound quality, since that is the only thing that’s prevailing, since processing has been proved on other consoles before.
I bought my GLD for cheap money, and I don’t mind it being discontinued, there are still rental companies working with the Yamaha PM5D, so why not? If it works and sounds good, it is good!

Last year, the SQ did not have anything from the deep processing, and it was a turn off for me, nowadays, why not? If you want new, with warranty, it is the next closest thing to GLD from AH.

Set the console to static IP, just checked mine, it’s on static, and boots up normally.

I think the SQ is the succesor to both QU and GLD, combining worst from both consoles 🙂

The Deep fx from GLD/iLive is now possible to use on SQ, with the clumsy QU like workflow and knob count, and also seems like an M32 killer. AH just put out 48in/16out stagebox that can be used with both SQ and dLive, and I think the GLD is basically slowly getting discontinued. Not sure if you can buy a new GLD anywhere, Thomann sold it’s stocks within the last year, only some B-stock GLD 112s left..

I have been watching one website that has mostly used audio and lighting stuff based in Germany, and last year, when I bought my GLD80, there were not that many consoles and the prices where more or less the same, now you can pick up a used GLD80 flight cased with 2412 and 0804 flight cased for 3000euros (vat included). That’s a bargain.

Too bad the m-Dante cards don’t show up often on second hand market, and they still hold the price…

BTW mixing my touring band withing two months on a festival headlining in prime time with the GLD80, last time they played it, attendance was 117 000 😉
Now only if I had a m-Dante to try to dial in the reverbs at home with live tracks and experiment with reverb setups….

If you need that many de-esser’s consider it inserting on a subgroup that has only vocal channels routed to.

I find it effective for corporate events, where you have multiple headsets.

Have you used the wifi router with the console beforehand?

If you set up the ip address to static and tried booting the console while the router is not physically connected, it makes the console boot up too long, I think it is documented somewhere on the forums, I personally had the same issue on the 1.6 version of the firmware.
Once boot up, set it to DHCP and it boots normally.

I’m not sure if the problem persists with 1.61, but the 1.6 is rock solid firmware, and 1.61. had only minor updates regarding automixer and connecting the offline editor on Mac.

    No.

You could assing only one channel to record, like Mains L only, but it will still record as a stereo track.

Something’s gone wrong with my posts, so I’m typing again and attaching a small comparison sheet between the GLD and the SQ as of OCT 2018:

    GLD - SQ comparison

other stuff from the iLive/GLD era is still there like 12 stage phaser, flanger, chorus, but I doubt these are used that often, so they are not in the table, GLD has them all, SQ has none.

Also SQ has no mono matrixes, only stereo, and other stuff – if you sniff thru the SQ forums, you’ll see people complaining about the lack of features on SQ.

Almost forgot, the GLD has a show-scene-snapshot control, where SQ has only scenes, so if you need snapshots for theater cues or song changes within the touring band, forget about the SQ for now, maybe they’ll implement it later, although GLD has it all…

ps: Actually hpf is 12/18/24 on the GLD

The GLD is disappearing from stores, local one can’t order it anymore from the distributer, so I guess AH already stopped producing them. Some stores have them on stock and getting rid of the for cheap money.

It depends on what you need from the console.
GLD is a very very versatile mixing desk, with the same FX like the iLive and some from the dLive (Multiband, Deesser, dbx 160 simulations) and can be used in any kind of application, either FOH, monitoring, conference, etc.

The SQ is still missing a lot of features that are normal on an X32 for instance, and recently AH started charging SQ users for Deep processing plugins, like the before mentioned DBX emulations, GEQ, and these cost pretty penny too.

If you compared them side by side, only thing that makes SQ more desirable is the 96khz sample rate, and that’s about it, under the hood it’s a powerful system, but at the current state it’s 5 years behind with the firmware. Also the lack of buttons and rotaries makes its workflow cumbersome, compared to GLD.

I guess AH will implement some of the stuff from dLive, but it will take time and won’t be cheap either.

I still see Yamaha M7CL’s around, so I see no problems with using a console that’s not manufactured anymore.

I have to say that I’m quite happy with the introduction of the SQ, because the GLD’s price, both new (if you can find it) and used has dropped a lot, and now I was able to sell my former console, and I’m getting a GLD in 10 days.

I know a lot of you want some features like ducking and side chaining compression, but personally, I find the GLD to be the most complete small format console on the market, and I’ll be happy to use it.

The M7CL remained hovering around the scene long after it was rendered obsolete, and PM5D too, I think GLD will stick around for a couple of years and will serve it’s purpose.
If you want to take a look at a “still-in-production” console that’s stuck in 2012, take a look at the Si series from Soundcraft (I had an Expression).

It would be nice if there could be a new generation of GLD’s to fit between the SQ and dLive, I have to say I was not a fan of AH for years, but GLD really made me think twice, very good programming of the UI, compressors, addons, really cool, thumbs up for the DBX160 emulation 🙂

Thomann got rid of their GLD80 bundle stock, guess 2019 means the end for GLD production.
